Well, if Urbz decides to put the coolers on Bergers, pissing him off in the process and pushing him towards us a la Derrick Green, you won't find many of us complaining. Dude is a baller. Getting him and Ferns, plus McCray and Gedeon in '13, could come back to bite Urbz in the ass.

I think Urban is comfortable "cooling" on Ohio players if he doesn't view them as elite. Seemed to work out pretty well for him in 2013 (ratings are 247 composite). I'm not saying this is the case with Berger as I think the staff likes him, but as someone pointed out, OSU is in on some national elite names already.

Vonn Bell (98.7) vs. Dymonte Thomas (96.8)
Marcus Baugh (96.0) vs. Jake Butt (92.5)
Eli Apple (97.5) vs. Ross Douglas (88.1)
Joey Bosa (98.1) vs. Taco Charlton (93.6)
Trey Johnson (94.9) vs. Ben Gedeon (91.3)
Mike Mitchell (97.3) vs. Mike McCray (93.7)
Ezekiel Elliott (96.9) vs. Deveon Smith (91.5)
Jalin Marshall (98.3) vs. Jaron Dukes (88.8)
Cam Burrows (97.2) vs. Reon Dawson (84.9)

This ratings comparison is extremely objective...

I'm all ears if you can think of a better system to use? I used 247 composite, which is a combination of all the top ratings sites.

And for the record, this is a great thing for UM as well. More top Ohio players available for them to cherry-pick from. We are already seeing the impact as UM and OSU are drastically separating themselves from the rest of the B1G. Going to be a fun next few years in The Game, that is for sure.

Not the numbers, obviously the composite is overall the best system, more-so the comparison of players. Set it up as if Urban "cooled" on guys like Dymonte for Bell, etc. which is not the case. And if we pointed out our national guys (OL, DG) this list would look a lot different. Not a big deal, but not objective.

Well, they did land Tracy Sprinkle. shrug

  • If I'm being objective, the only guy on the list I might say OSU has a edge on would be Jones at OL. And only because I think it will be easier for OSU to sell him on quick playing time than it would be for you guys with all your youngsters. Other than that I think Berger is a coin flip, and the rest are a slight edge to UM.

This is true. I also would have avoided mentioning #scraps.

Missing the point. Meyer didn't "miss" on anyone in Ohio because he found better players elsewhere. One exception perhaps being Thomas as I think him and Vonn Bell would have made a nice combo.

So not true. Meyer has lower rated guys at both Thomas and Taco's positions. He missed on both of those guys. Not to mention those guys you consider better are just by the recruiting sites. It's not by the coaches. You have no idea how high either Urban or Coach Hoke had any of these guys rated on their boards.

    I'll give you Thomas.

Urban is not going to cool on Berger OSU wants him just as bad as any other LB

I wouldn't sleep on him...he may end up being one of the best in the class....after all he was the defensive player of the year in Ohio

So Taco is better than Bosa?

You do not make sense at all....basically you bash the recruiting sites and their rankings but then you say Thomas and Taco were ranked higher

    JJP

  • In all fairness, OSU did get some great kids at positions they passed up on locally, and Von Bell choosing OSU is almost infuriating.

    However,

    1. It made Michigan's recruiting class undeniably better. Even if we were winning with OSUs scraps (which is certainly not the case) we would still be winning.

    2. Its very easy to underestimate how much staying predominantly regional can be in forming bonds between the staff and players and within the class itself. This class is made up of kids who played the camp circuit together, high school together, even grade school together.

He definitely has a higher ceiling, but he also has a lower floor. Depending on how Taco develops, he could very well end up better than Joey B.
