Tom Strobel was one of three Wolverine signees that participated in the Ohio North-South All-Star Classic. Click inside for the latest on the 2012 defensive end.

  • Defensive Player of the Year in Ohio. flex

  • Wow I didn't realize he had such a monster senior season. The fact that he was named Defensive Player of the Year is quite the honor - especially since OSU thinks they got the two best DEs from Ohio lol.

  • I live in Mentor and went to all the Mentor Cards football games. Your fan base will love this kid. Not only is he very good on the field he is great off it. Really good kid and very smart. Thought he was going to be a Buckeye but did not happen. I hope we get the Qb from Mentor Mitch Trubisky. Mentor has a WR who is just a JR. this year and he may be a big time player as well. Good luck to Strobel and Go Bucks !!

  • Strobel's tape reminded me of Roh's coming out of high school. Do you guys think Strobel has a higher ceiling than Roh?

I would say similar. Strobel probably has more of a body type to put on weight easier, something Roh struggled with early on.

I kinda agree with you. Already much bigger then roh was. I kinda picture him in between roh and van bergen. More power/strength then roh but faster and more agile then van bergen

Absolutely agree. I don't want to say that Strobel is "skinny" but he is a very very lean 240. He could easily get up to 270 without losing much quickness or agility. I really wouldn't be surprised to see him or Wormley (probably Wormley) move inside at some point in their career and be an Alan Branch type DT. I thought I had recently read that Wormley is actually up to around 6'8" now and I see no reason that he couldn't bulk up to at least 300 pounds. He might be too tall to play inside but if he could make it work that would be a whole lot of beef in there between him and Pipkins to give a guy like Henry more room to penetrate. I absolutely love what Hoke and Co. are doing along the lines because all of these guys are very versatile. This defense is going to be a blast to watch once they get rolling.

  • Wanted to add that for Strobel's senior project, he will be working with former Michigan (and Browns) player Aaron Shea, the director of player engagement for the Browns.

  • My favorite quote about him is from Jerry Montgomery who said his game has a little bit of prick in him.... Going to need that as a SDE... Godin seems the same way... Two very physical DEs

I hadn't heard that quote until now, but I like it. As an old coach of mine used to say, football is an organized street fight; they just put a ball out there for the parents. You've got to have that nasty attitude to become a truly great player.
