I like conleys film a ton. But im going to wait to react until he officially takes that visit. I realize that this looks pretty bad with his usage of words including oregon being the favorite. But everyone threw a fit when dawson wanted to visit fla and evryone told me i was crazy for not being worried. This has a slightly different set of circumstances but ill wait to judge the situation until more details are available. If he is gone, its a position that can absorb the hit. we have a ton of playmakers there and it may give us the opportunity at a higher rated recruit down the stretch. Lets hang in there for now guys....

I tend to agree, but Dawson shut things down after speaking with the coaches. Conley has spoken with the coaches and is still very much entertaining the idea of visiting elsewhere. I think that's the worrisome part. We still have some quality CBs in the 2013 class and there's a lot of talent there for 2014. So I definitely agree that it's a hit that can be absorbed.

This thread is a prime example of why I love our fanbase. We are facing possibly our first decommitment of the class and we've more or less been civil, understanding and mature. People can say what they want, but there are not too many other 247 team sites that have such great discussion particularly for a negative topic. Much respect.

I just want to throw this out there. First of all .. even though it seems as if he might be leaning towards being a Duck if he gets the offer .. I figure this is a perfect opportunity to bring this up.
For those of you who question Coach Hoke's stance on 'commits' not being allowed to take visits to other schools, while being committed to UM .. this is a perfect example of why. As some others have already mentioned .. once a commit makes his verbal to us, the coaches also make a similar commitment to them. The coaches have turned away a good amount of talent that wanted to visit. Why? Because they took this young mans commitment (his word) and considered him part of the class.
Lets say that Conley decides to go ahead and fully decommit, and heads to Eugene .. guess how we're left. Empty handed. Only to try and mend relationships with young men that have already been turned away for whatever reason. That's why Hoke does what he does, and sticks by it. Your commitment is your WORD. If you break it, then best of luck to ya.
Also .. for those of you on the 'the scholarship doesn't get pulled .. well .. you just heard it from the horses mouth. He talked to the coaches and they told him bluntly .. "you visit Cincy and your offer will get pulled" .. and me .. as a fan .. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Thumbs up to the coaching staff. We've got something FAR too special being built in Ann Arbor right now, to change how we're doing things.
Best of luck to the kid wherever he ends up .. and ESPECIALLY if he smartens up and stays committed to the good guys.

I'm 100% in favor of Hoke's policy. The only thing I'm unsure of is why the scholarship would get pulled, versus no longer considering them to be a commit thus providing the potential for someone else to fill their spot. If looked at with the marriage analogy, if the spouse is looking around town to cheat, I understand why their significant other would file for a divorce and never reconsider their ungrateful dipshit of an ex. Is that the same idea here, since the coaches made it clear they were committing to each other?
If a visit is made by a commit, it is clear he is not 100% committed. Therefore, I understand dropping him from the class. I'm just not fully convinced that taking away the opportunity to re-join the class if a spot is still available down the line is the ideal scenario. After all, these are high school kids. Conley committed because he loved Michigan, I'm sure he still does. But after seven months he's had some time to think and maybe with one of his dream schools offering, he would like at the very least to check out their campus and facilities. I'm sure he did not envision this back when he committed and if he did I'm sure he would have held off.
If I personally had a vote for this scenario, I would no longer consider Conley a commit (barring a visit..), look to fill his spot with worthy talent and if he returns from Oregon wanting to re-join I would let him. If his spot gets filled the day after he's decommitted, that's his fault. I understand this may open a can of worms, but you have to be logical and assume this would not happen with more than one or two guys per year.

This is how I look at this.
If the kid goes whatever , one player does not make a team...
We have offers out to a few good players next year so we are recruiting the DB position anyway, so we either get LM3 or we wait until next year, and to be honest I believe there is more talent in 14'
Offers are out to DB's:
Jabrill Peppers Jalen Tabor Nick Watkins Parrker Westphal D'Andre Payne Damon Webb Troy Vincent Marshon Lattimore
And we have a few out to safeties, Now granted a few of these kids are reaches but it shows that the coaches are not going to settle with what they have now either way. So all in all MICHIGAN will be just fine with Mr.Conley....IMO

It's clearly a risk, especially if he gets taken to the woodshed again this year by an SEC team in the BCSCG. He made some comments following the LSU game last year that the defensive talent down South is just at another level. Oregon has done a fantastic job elevating its program based on an explosive offense and Nike marketing, but if Chip Kelly begins to believe he will just never get enough elite defensive talent to come to Eugene, he might start thinking about alternatives. If not the NFL, it might be a higher profile college program with access to better talent (e.g., UT, USC, UGA, FSU).
