whoa whoa... are folks reading too much into the article? I don't see anywhere in the article where he states or he infers that UM was a place holder. I know when he committed to UM he was known as a heavy UM lean because he was a fan of UM (according to early reports by TVH). He obviously is also a fan of Oregon as well and that is not uncommon for a kid to like two schools. "I really want to visit Oregon but they haven't offered yet. If they do offer that will give me a lot to think about. I really want to check them out, they have been my favorite school for a long time, but it would obviously end things with Michigan." This does not tell me he used UM as a place holder but it does tell me that he regrets not waiting to commit to UM because he could visit Oregon without any reprecussions such as losing his scholly to UM and then weigh which school is best for him. I think folks are really overreacting to a kid that is truly torn I do want him in this class, I think he will be a unique game changer we need on D. but I won't hold ill will against him because I just don't interpret him doing anything shady here. Yes it hurts us if he does leave but it happens to every elite program. I’m sure the coaches would prefer to know now rather than later.

No. It's fairly obvious. He doesn't want to lose his spot to UM so he didn't visit CIncy. He's just waiting for an offer from his "favorite school" and once he gets it he's gone.
If you don't see that than you are wearing maize and blue goggles.

You obviously aren't familiar with my posts, I'm the furthest from UM bias. perhaps he is gone, I'm just disagreeing with the placeholder comments...I don't think that was the case at all. Some kids don't fully comprehend the no visit policy and he has regrets about committing early, that does not equate place holder.

I don't know about you but when he said they have been my favorite school for a long time I tend to think that goes way back before he committed in March. Honestly he never felt like part of the class to me. Never saw him mention anything UofM, hasn't been on campus nearly as much as the other Ohio kids. It is what it is though

I think we will just go with three corners and push for LMIII unless another corner expresses interest in UofM. We are in the thick of things with some really great corners in 2014. It sucks because Conley was a tall corner we have been trying to recruit but we are in on some big corners in 2014 so we will be alright.

I just want to throw this out there. First of all .. even though it seems as if he might be leaning towards being a Duck if he gets the offer .. I figure this is a perfect opportunity to bring this up.
For those of you who question Coach Hoke's stance on 'commits' not being allowed to take visits to other schools, while being committed to UM .. this is a perfect example of why. As some others have already mentioned .. once a commit makes his verbal to us, the coaches also make a similar commitment to them. The coaches have turned away a good amount of talent that wanted to visit. Why? Because they took this young mans commitment (his word) and considered him part of the class.
Lets say that Conley decides to go ahead and fully decommit, and heads to Eugene .. guess how we're left. Empty handed. Only to try and mend relationships with young men that have already been turned away for whatever reason. That's why Hoke does what he does, and sticks by it. Your commitment is your WORD. If you break it, then best of luck to ya.
Also .. for those of you on the 'the scholarship doesn't get pulled .. well .. you just heard it from the horses mouth. He talked to the coaches and they told him bluntly .. "you visit Cincy and your offer will get pulled" .. and me .. as a fan .. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Thumbs up to the coaching staff. We've got something FAR too special being built in Ann Arbor right now, to change how we're doing things.
Best of luck to the kid wherever he ends up .. and ESPECIALLY if he smartens up and stays committed to the good guys.

Not taking anything personally. It's pretty simple. If Conley gets that Oregon offer and visits then Michigan was a placeholder. It's that simple.
