Michigan stopped recruiting several interested CBs when he committed. So he committed to us, but we also committed to him. We were his only major offer (still are) and it seems like the commitment was nothing more than a placeholder to see if another major offer would come. I know Cameron Walker cancelled his visit around that time and I think there were a few others as well.

I know McQuay is a stud, but I would rather have Conley if given the choice. His upside given his size, speed and athleticism is through the roof (not that LMIII's isn't as well). He is also another Ohio kid.
I don't think we ever backed off LMIII, we just told him over one weekend that he might lose a guaranteed spot (which he didn't). Either way, I'll be pissed if Conley decommits.

I'm a bit curious as to how the conversations went with the coaches before he cancelled the Cincy visit, because for him to come out in public with comments that make it clear that Michigan is just a placeholder, you have to believe the coaches either already know he's gone or he lied to their faces.

Just so this thread doesn't solely contain negativity, who are the DB recruits we either stopped talking to or never looked hard at who could fill his void barring a decommitment? Obviously LMIII and some people have mentioned Priest Willis, but we have been wrapped up on DB's for such a long time that I've forgotten who's on the market. Perhaps this is a good question for you well-informed writers.
