Big loss. I feel bad for Stonum, too, but in the end it was his behavior that led to this. And maybe this has taught him a lesson that will save him from worse consequences down the road.

As long as he can find a way to stay out of trouble and hopefully finishes his degree then all should be well.

Agreed.
We don't know all the details, but with the limited amount we have heard I see no problem with the decision.

A tough decision Hoke had to make. Someone will have to step up in the return game, as it showed this past season it hurt not having Stonum.

That really hurts, but it's the right move.

Damn that hurts. Losing Hemingway wouldn't have been so bad with a talented veteran receiver like Stonum to fall back on. Now as far as experience goes, we're just down to Roundtree, Gallon and Dileo who are all really more slot receiver types.
The other receivers on the roster are T. Robinson, J. Robinson and J. Jackson. Since I haven't seen any of these guys play I guess we're gonna see some wide open competition including freshman.
Maybe we better take 4 wide receivers if we get the chance?
*Edit: By the way I'm not in any way saying Hoke made the wrong decision. In fact I think just the opposite. I saw what Stonum said about his dismissal and it sounds like he appreciates the coaching staff for giving him a chance and takes responsibility for his actions.

And just to further the point: remember this the next time a rival fan brings up rules violations. Hoke gave Stonum one chance, he blew it, game over.

Not sure on that one. Given the loss of Stonum and uncertainty how many we take in the class, there could be a scholarship for him. He was a very important contributor on special teams, which would be a great use of an open scholarship, IMO.
A senior who is willing to put in work and contribute any way he can, even if it's just as a gunner on punt coverage/kick coverage fits the mold of the type of person the coaches want on this team.

Coach Hoke's decision was easy, really. Darryl literally left him no choice. I hope he does graduate and can transfer to another school to play his final year of college football. Best of luck to him.

The official press release on MGoBlue.com has quotes from Stonum saying he understands that he made a mistake and he will continue at Michigan this Spring to complete his degree.

Michigan has been going after a 3rd receiver for the past few days... The writing was on the wall.
I think the staff has narrowed their choices out in this order..
1. Jordan Payton - Michigan in-home Thursday night
2. Monty Madaris - Expected to visit Michigan this weekend
3. Kenny Lawler Jr. - Might see an offer soon; may visit

It's been going back in forth the past couple weeks on whether or not Michigan has been eliminated.
If true, then I'm sure the staff will put the full court press on Jordan Payton. Hopefully his mom will be alright for him to live across the country.
