Hoke's quotes are from yesterday, before he was sent to jail for 10 days and was reported to not have shown up recently to any of the 10 or 12 step programs that he required to go to. Not good.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

The exact article, I believe, stated he hadn't been to any of the required 12-step program meetings in the last 2 weeks. Those last 2 weeks though were kids at home (Texas in his case) for the holidays, and then flying to New Orleans for bowl week. So it's possible he did attend a local one and the Michigan court just didn't have a record of it.
This definitely looks bad for Stonum, but the staff knows much more about the situation than we do, and the court isn't going to care that he was in Texas or New Orleans for a couple weeks when making their decision, so it's possible they would be less lenient on him than the coaches who are much closer to the situation.

All you have to do is read the judge's comments to know that he was pissed. And that wouldn't be the case if Stonum had been doing everything right under his probation terms up until this point and this was just a minor slip up. The judge takes his cue from Stonum's probation officer and it looks to me as if he did not get a glowing report. And, really, Stonum telling the judge he thought his Texas DL was still valid? That's just another bare-faced lie. It's like Tressel saying he didn't know who to tell. Judge's aren't idiots and Stonum isn't the first person to come before this judge with a joke of a story.

I agree, and really can see the coaches going either way. My posts were more to take the side of Stonum staying just because everyone seems to be going the other way that we have to dump him or we're no better than Dantonio. Just playing devil's advocate, it's possible a judge has a bias against young athletes and could want to make a point. It's possible Stonum didn't realize he should call somebody to tell them he was going to miss a meeting the last couple weeks. It's possible he has every intention to pay the fines, but has no money since he can't have a decent paying job while he's on scholarship. He definitely drove, he definitely lied to the PO, which are both really stupid things, so it's up to the coaches to figure out if this is enough reason for them to give up on him.

As much as it pains me to say... I feel ti is the other way around. I think Darryl gave up on the coaches, team members and others. He has responsibilities. If true... he has made no apprearances at required meetings in over two weeks. Individuals in positions of authority want to hear no and will accept no excuses for failure. Same goes with professors and bosses at jobs. When you've got responsibilities, you handle it. In my oponion, how much would it have cost him to grab a cab and get to his parole meeting? Really? His next stop will be a shot in the nfl... free agency. I dont know what he was thinking but it certainly wasnt his team 133.

Eh, I think Brady's hand is forced with this one.
Lying to your PO about how you got to the meeting is pretty inexcusable. It's not like they can't walk you to the door, watch you hop in your car and drive off. As I said previously, if he walked in and said "I drove myself here for whatever reason" I'm not so sure they don't just let him slide.
With jail time imposed, the court is obviously not pleased with his progress, and he should probably be released.

University Spokesperson said today that Stonum's status is still unchanged. By all accounts Stonum has done everything asked of him since his suspension with regards too fulfilling team obligations and probation obligations(According to his probation officer he was an exemplary case, Showing up for appointments and testing properly). I don't think he will get kicked off for this... nor do I believe he should. I think we all need to let this play out.

Because he drove too his probation meeting on a suspended license. The way I see it... He is serving his jail time so he is dealing with his consequences. It's not like Stonum was out going for a joy ride drunk again... he was trying too go meet his PO at 7 am in the morning. I would like too see Stonum back next year, but im not the coach.
