I thought that too, originally, but Hemingway truly is special in terms of his ability to time his jumps and take balls away from DBs. All of those jump balls are not just a coincidence. I think Stonum might be faster and smoother, but Hemingway is much more physical and has a knack for coming down with the ball in traffic. We are going to miss Hemingway next year much more than many people think.
Also, Roundtree is much better in the slot than as a wideout. We are lacking true wideouts right now. Unless someone emerges, it is going to be a glaring weakness next year.

I think you might be missing the bigger picture.
It's not the act of driving. It's that he had a set of rules to abide by to show that he could act as a responsible adult whose worthy of being a student at Michigan and playing on the team. He's screwed up and was given a chance to redeem himself. But once again, he came up short.
I realize he was TRYING to do the responsible thing but he obviously didn't think this thing through. HE CAN'T DRIVE. He's got a suspended license, fergodsake. IMO, it's evidence that he still can't see the forest through the trees. (Of course, this is the dad of 2 teenagers and football coach in me talking.)
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I'm not so sure Hoke will drop Stonum. And I don't think Hoke has ever used the term zero tolerance. People are not perfect and all mistakes are not created equal. What Hoke has said is that Stonum needs to do certain things, including satisfying all of his legal/probationary requirements, before he will be considered for reinstatement to the team.
Also, despite all the hand-wringing and calling for Stonum's head, this is just a traffic ticket. It is no different than a ticket anyone might receive for failing to come to a full stop at a stop sign or for driving with an expired tag on their plates. It is up to Stonum's probation officer and the court to decide how big of a deal this is and whether he should be charged with a violation of his probation. People do things that could potentially violate their probation all the time without serious consequences, and it is very possible that Stonum will just be allowed to pay the fine and complete his probation without anything more than a stern warning from the judge.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't want to see him dismissed for this. If he was driving home or to the store, I'd have a problem with his blatant disregard for the rules. He must have felt he had no choice but to drive to his hearing or face bigger consequences. But I still think he could have found someone on campus who would have given him a ride. Hell, he can have my number. I'll drive up there whenever he needs a ride. BUT DON'T DRIVE DARRYL.

The exact article, I believe, stated he hadn't been to any of the required 12-step program meetings in the last 2 weeks. Those last 2 weeks though were kids at home (Texas in his case) for the holidays, and then flying to New Orleans for bowl week. So it's possible he did attend a local one and the Michigan court just didn't have a record of it.
This definitely looks bad for Stonum, but the staff knows much more about the situation than we do, and the court isn't going to care that he was in Texas or New Orleans for a couple weeks when making their decision, so it's possible they would be less lenient on him than the coaches who are much closer to the situation.
