  • It's funny, I went to HS about a quarter mile away from Good Council (graduated 2001) and they were terrible. The DCMA was pretty much owned by Dematha. Now it's GC in football and Montrose Christian in Basketball (interesting side note - the Headmaster at my school and CFO got busted for stealing $2.5 million and we nearly shut down [this happened just as first semester was ending my senior year] and the basketball program [which was essentially the corporate entity of our 'academic institution'] up and left for a previously unknown school by the name of Montrose Christian who gladly welcomed their shoe sponsorship deal). I'm a UM fan before anything else (except in Golf, then I have to go with my beloved three time DIII National Championship winning GUILFORD FIGHTING QUAKERS), but the amount of talent here in the DCMA is stunning. And it seems to be free for the taking too. I was so excited with Blake Countess, guy was practically my neighbor. Yeah, but my point is, living in this area you'd think that UMD would be a powerhouse - but for many reasons elite area preps seem to want to flee far away. Hopefully to my Wolverines. If UM can get it hands in down here I'd be thrilled. It would be even better if some of it rubbed off on the basketball program as well since DCMA produces some of the most elite talent in the country on a regular basis. Right now this area doesn't really have any strong ties to one school or another. The last "pipeline" I can think of was Dematha/UNC in basketball, but the success Countess had last year could really help us out down here I think. Especially since the staff stuck with him and let him play through his mistakes. Early playing time has become such a key aspect of recruiting now and I believe that to really make your program look appealing in that nature the coaches need to make sure to make their confidence in a youngster both obvious and also consistent.
