...I'd just like to say how thankful I am for the fans that make up this board. In looking at the petition to ban racist statements on tBB, it's becoming painfully apparent the differences between the psychological makeups of many fanbases. I'm beyond proud to see every single Michigan poster in there standing up for what's right, despite the idiocy and ignorance spewed by numerous other posters.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate every other fan standing with us, but the consistent high level of discourse, awareness and social consciousness, and appreciation for doing the right thing are all traits of this Michigan board, and, by extension, all of the fans who comprise it. We may joke about some people liking Drake, or some people having absurdly attractive wives, but when it comes down to it, I cannot recall a single instance where I've been upset, offended, or disgusted with a post on this board from a Michigan poster.

Now, before I go on any longer, I'd just like to end by applauding all our efforts at keeping the board clean, respectful, and appropriate for fans of all ages, races, sexual orientations, or creeds. Our moderators are top-notch, and every day on this board, I'm consistently reminded of why I'm a Michigan fan.

Props to your fanbase as well. Really was a joint effort, and a pretty darn good one. Felt this was something that needed to be brought to the attention of everyone affiliated with the board; thanks a ton for all your input and support.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

That doesn't explain why you locked the thread. We aren't allowed to discuss racism on tBB here?

You're more than welcome to discuss it. My thing was just that I thought the petition itself was unnecessary, when by far the best course of action would be to directly contact the people in charge when you see an offensive post. It's not like 247Sports is having an internal debate over whether or not those words/phrases are OK. We all know they're completely unacceptable, but the petition makes it look like it's up for debate. Again, I totally agree with the basic idea, but didn't agree with the chosen course of action.

  • It really shouldn't even be needed, considering the first rule in the guidelines is this:

    1. No offensive language or images (swear words/cuss words, sexist, racist, religious) - including variations of offensive language with different spellings or letters omitted, etc.

If the people using them don't like the rules, then why did they even join in the first place?

  • I dunno. It's 247 board so they can regulate it however they want. I've never gone on any other forum on the 247 network other then this one so I'm oblivious to this issue. But I've always felt like people should be able to say whatever they want. At least then you know what you're dealing with.

There needs to be a clear call to action in the petition.

Todd, 247 also needs to have a clear policy on what is acceptable and how users can "easily" follow AND help police the policy.

Sending an email to "the management" when somrone sees a racist rant wont ever make a long term impact.

For example the petition's call to action could be for 247 to explicilty lay out its policy and how/when to ban someone and how/when to have a post deleted. There might also be a request to add what is usually is common feature of having a flag button next to every post for anything that violates the policy. That way posts and posters can be easily identified.

Now I'm only ever on mobile so I dont know if any of this is already implemented.

Per Todd's other point thus doesn't need to be a public request/petition. It needs to be a request from users, employees, or a from of mods that have influence.

I do think it'd pretty much eliminate the offensive language if the moderators are immediately made aware. I assume they'll delete the posts and ban the posters, so the message will be clear that that behavior is unacceptable.

Sounds like the Mods aren't doing their job on tBB. Anyone agree? And they just deleted the massive complaint about it.

It is joke right now. People questioning the fact that certain mods call posters against bigotry "pansies" and/or state they won't do anything about it and it will pass over, get banned, while those throwing out bigoted statements get a slap on the back from the mods.

Its amazing you were banned...you started the petition. Its like China, give a little power to some regional official and they abuse it.

If I was at a laptop maybe, as it is, I am on a mobile and banned for a week.

Should be more efficient at work this week. :)

SpartanRocky, SteveSchneider, and several Michigan fans deserve the credit. They pushed for it and wrote it, I just posted it.

    You just wanted up votes....

Seriously, I echo your sentiments. And yes, there is a giant difference between the fan bases beyond the general "we don't poop in coolers."
