Some thoughts on BTN and Denard

  • The Nebraska and Ohio State games are set to be on ESPN networks, but the other 3 are uncommitted. Of the Minnesota, Northwestern, and Iowa games, how many do you think will get on ESPN and how many will be shunted off to glitchy, awful BTN? Is anyone else thinking that at least two of them will and getting preemptively mad about it?

related note: BTN is by far the worst channel I've ever paid extra for

related note: I have never appreciated ESPN more than I do now

    semi-related note:
With 96 yards yesterday, Denard moves up to 4129 for his career, 351 yards behind Pat White's record. At his current pace of 128.57 yards per game, he would eclipse that mark during the Northwestern game, just before the end of the third quarter if you want to take that pace really seriously. Think this might help ensure that game gets on the real air? If Denard goes off for 150-200 against Nebraska (which seems, uh, possible, given their defense's track record this season), would the possibility of him breaking the record with a 150-200 yard performance against Minnesota push that game up to ESPN? Personally I hope he doesn't get there on the road, he deserves to have that moment happen at home, but breaking it in Minnesota seems fairly plausible.

completely unrelated note filled with premature hypotheticals:
If Michigan gets to the B1G championship game, and Denard maintains his current rushing pace through that game, he will finish the regular season with 1671 rushing yards, just 31 yards shy of his own record for QB rushing yards in a season. If Denard can average 135 rushing yards or more per game from now through the B1G championship game, he will eclipse that record.

So, let's say (arguendo, please don't punish me Jinx Gods) that Michigan wins the remainder of the games on its schedule, wins the B1G championship, and Denard finishes the B1G championship game with something like 1750 yards on the ground. If all that were true, he'd have led Michigan to an 11-2 record, including 9 straight victories and the B1G championship. He would have recent signature victories over Ohio State and Wisconsin (possibly Nebraska as well, depending on how Nebraska is viewed at that point) that might make his struggles against Alabama and Notre Dame fade in the memory. He'd already have the season and career QB rushing records, with a bowl game ahead of him to pad his lead. He'd be one of the 3 or 4 leading rushers overall from BCS conferences (side note: I didn't know this, but Stefphon Jefferson has already run for 1200+ yards this year! Unreal!) and with a better YPA than anyone else over 1500 yards. And if the current pace holds, he'd also have thrown for 2350 yards.

So my question is, with a resume like that, is there any way he could not be a Heisman finalist? I realize his hopes of actually winning almost certainly died in the Alabama game, and if not they definitely died in the Notre Dame game, but a resume like that has to be good enough to get to New York, doesn't it? Or do people think that perceptions of Denard and the B1G are so set in at this point that there's basically nothing he could do to get on peoples' ballots?

Anyway, pointless and premature speculation gonna be pointless and premature, but these were thoughts that struck me just now. Go Blue!

  • BTN is by far the worst product on television. DiNardo is an idiot, that sideline reporter who is beefier than hoke, no female sideline reporters.....you know ur bad when ya got me longing for Spielman!

fsn detroit was just as bad. it would always freeze during the pistons and tiger's games and every time they say they are sending it down to ryan field for an interview somehow they don't send it down and ryan field wasn't even ready, but they have stepped it up this year. it's much better. BTN needs to make some improvements. today was the only time BTN froze on me just once during the game, and it was for only 2 seconds; I'm happy with that

  • I haven't had BTN freeze on me, but their audio cuts out allll the time. Thankfully didn't happen in the game yesterday, but it happened lots in other games, and cut out every 4-5 minutes in some studio show I was watching earlier in the week. Unbearable.

  • Are ya'll watching BTN on Direct TV? I am and have never had a technical issue. I prefer their pre-game and post-game analysis, but then again, I am biased to the BIG.

    Norbit

  • Time Warner for me.

  • Comcast for me

Same here with DirectTV. I haven't had any issues and usually flip back and forth between ESPN and BTN for pre-game.
