So I'm cruising the ND board........

  • And I see a thread taking some shots at UM, and the OP states......"Everyone settle down scUM is looking at 4 or more losses this year.... Road games Alabama, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Ohio St... After loosing 4 games perhaps even more lets just see how long thoes 4 stars stick around... Let me remind all that Charlie's first two years resulted in a BCS game and where is he now.... Last yr scUM had 8 home games and just got by an average OSU and Nebraska team.... The Brady Joke party is over", and the next post is "They will be underdogs in all 4."

Now obviously there is at least one major factual flaw in the OP, unless winning by 30 is just getting by, so I wanted to see how badly flawed the second statement was. I know it's early, but Vegas will be kicking out odds here shortly, so what say you with this schedule? I know on offense, we'll be better, and I'm hoping the DLine works itself out, because if does, we'll be fine there, and the kicking game is improving. Here's what I say, in regards to lines, who disagrees?

    2012
    Date Opponent
Sept. 1 vs. Alabama (Arlington, Texas) 6 point dogs. Should be 10, but lots of stupid money will come in on UM
Sept. 8 Air Force (loses QB, and top RB and WR off a .500 team) 13 point favorite
Sept. 15 Massachusetts NL or 30+
Sept. 22 at Notre Dame Before the season starts, Pick em. We'll see on the QB situation
    Sept. 29 Bye Week
    Oct. 6 at Purdue +8
    Oct. 13 Illinois (Homecoming) +5
    Oct. 20 Michigan State +3
    Oct. 27 at Nebraska +3
    Nov. 3 at Minnesota +10
    Nov. 10 Northwestern +8
    Nov. 17 Iowa +5
Nov. 24 at Ohio State +1
Dec. 1 Big Ten Championship Game

Outside of Alabama, I just don't see us as dogs in any of them, based on what we know. I see a lot of UM fans saying we'll go backwards this year, but based on this schedule, I still see a real shot at 10 wins. So we lose to Bama, and worst case we split with ND/msu, and then off to Columbus. Don't get me wrong, we could lose 5 or 6 games. So where am I flawed?

  • Yeah man you just got to let domers be domers. They haven't been relevant in years and still think they are. Best part is 7-5 would be a good year for them this year. Shoot star thinks the offense will be better without M. Floyd this year. That's quite comical to me.

At the end if the day, that's why they play the game.

  • The last people I'd take predictions from is Notre Dame fans. Every year they're going to return to glory. And every year, they underachieve. We were on the verge of being Notre Dame but then we were Hoked.

  • Hasnt ND last 4 games the last couple of years, how many of their 4 stars did they lose? ''Sound logic coming from ND.

The one in the middle is Kate Upton. I don't remember the names of the other 2. It was just 2 hot pics I found on a google search. I believe the one on the left is some kinda model. And I think the one on the right does porn. Or at least porn pics.

  • Outside of the Bama game, the difficulty of our schedule is greatly exaggerated.

People conveniently forget to mention that the only 2 teams we lost to last season, we now play at home.

ND and Ohio on the road are tossups, with maybe a slight advantage going to the home teams. Kelly's offense is predicated on the pass, and their QB was garbage WITH Floyd. Ohio lost last season because we d*ck slapped their defense. Same D-Coordinator, same players. Meyer isn't going to improve much on 37 points.

Nebraska... really? A team built on defense who just lost their two best defenders. Does Martinez scare anyone? I know we will sell out to stop the run.

    Norbit

  • I don't really give a damn about the ND game. The goal is the B1GCG and ND has no bearing on it. I'd trade an ND loss for an MSU victory all day, every day, and twice on Sunday.

  • Honestly the B1G is filled with lots of questions:
UM - can we replace RVB/Martin/Molk?
MSU - can they replace Cousins?
Nebraska - can they find a way to run when teams know Martinez can't pass?
OSU - how will they adapt to running Meyer's system in his first year?
Illinois - how will they handle having a new coach?
Iowa - can they replace Coker?
Wisconsin - can they replace Wilson?

    Also for non-conference
Alabama - how will new players fare in the first game of the season?
ND - will a QB step up?

As such lots of games could be toss-ups and we will see how these teams answer these questions (they have more for each as well, but these are just small samples) as the year progresses. It is another reason why any team could win the B1G.

This also leads to my belief that we could have a better team, but with a worse record. Another part of that is 11-2 is a damn good record and even going 10-3 is technically worse.

I still don't think if we did worse than 11-2 that we would lose out on these recruits. They can see where the program is headed and they want to be part of the turnaround.

  • I consistently see people picking ND over UM this Fall which I don't understand. Do they not know what is going on with their roster?

    buttesnake

  • Why do people still believe in ND? maybe the biggest under achievers of the century. Join a conference for god sakes so at least when you're out of the National Championship race after the first 2 weeks you can have something else to shoot for.

I post over there, much less than before, and they are getting to be as bad as Bucknuts and tRCMB. They seem to now be directing their multi-decade frustration on Michigan. You cannot even have a reasonable discussion.

I kind of think we have about the same chance to beat ND as Bama. Maybe it will be a little easier though.

I don't think the Vegas lines will play out this way, but I can see us losing by one score to Bama on a neutral field with them replacing a bunch of starters. Playing at ND will be a tougher environment and they return a lot of players. They were a really good team last year until the wheels fell off (i.e., they lost their edge) and the QB play can not be worse IMO. If Brian Kelly can learn not to transfer the tension he feels onto his players (making them extremely tight), I think they could be a great team next year and in the future.

You lost me when you said we have the same chance to beat ND as Bama. Bama is in much better shape as a program and team than ND is right now.

Part of it is WHERE the game is played, part of it is the number of RETURNING STARTERS and part of it is MOTIVATION (ND wants to beat us bad).

That said, ND has some top level...Bama level...talent. ND recruits stud players.

ND's coach is not as good though. The variable as I stated is Kelly growing into the job (or not).

So, considering those facts, you really can't see see where I am coming from that we have about as much a chance as beating ND as Bama?

What is Peter saying? Did he not watch the last 3 yrs of the MICH/ND games? #CrisCarter C'mon MAN! Notre Dame is a decent team, but they are NOT Bama. Don't even go there with that. lynchmob

Nope i can't see it at all. Bama is on a whole different level than Bama. The only part of what you said that would give ND a boost is that we play at ND but we won there 2 years ago. ND wanted to beat us really bad last year and couldn't get the job done. I will believe in ND when they actually turn things around. I know Bama is good.

It's not Bama = ND. It is about the circumstances surrounding the game. The location. The new guys in their first Bama game. The motivation of ND. I don't think Bama will be as good as they were in the NC game. They typically are not this early in the year (especially coming off a NC). I think ND came off the rails last year, but had great talent and played really strong football. If their head coach had not melted down all over the players, they would have been a BCS team.

    Peterklima

  • Until ND proves that they can win with they turnover prone offense and QB I'm not that worried about them. The only thing that may give us problems against them is their defense. It is pretty solid. I still think we pull it out.
