Six Still In The Mix For Green

Richmond (Va.) Hermitage Top247 running back Derrick Green was hoping to have his top-13 schools narrowed to five by the end of this week. He ended up getting it down to six.

  • Ah, the consistently changing saga of Mr. Green... he's consistently said he was planning to announce AFTER signing day (his Mom's B-Day I believe). Now he doesn't have a timeline for a decision.

A year ago he was a life long OSU & Eddie George fan. Then he became smitten w/ Clemson. Next he was feeling the love from Ole Miss, then Auburn. Finally, he supposedly almost comitted to UM while in Ann Arbor at the BBQ. Now that OSU & Clemson have closed the door on him, they're out. Greg Bryant looks like he's headed to Auburn so Green likely won't end up there. I'd have to guess either UM or VT at this point... but if he waits too long UM might not have room for him either.

Yep. He should have all the information he needs. My twocents? Watch us hear he wants to focus on his HS season, and worry about it in December.

  • Great points all around here Steve. As of this minute, I do feel Michigan is the team to beat. But as you pointed out, that may not necessarily be the case as this continues to unfold.

While the Michigan State game is clearly Michigan's biggest home game in 2012, it's not until October 20. If I'm Michigan, I'd honestly be tempted to push for an official visit for the home opener. While the atmosphere may not be quite what it'll be on October 20, it may still be enough to push the Wolverines over the edge and secure a commitment. Otherwise, waiting until October 20 gives other schools ample opportunity to get him on campus for an official and begin to swing the pendulum in their favor.

And with the significant amount of buzz surrounding the Wolverines heading into this season, I think there will still be a very good atmosphere at the home opener regardless of what happens in the Alabama game.

Great points Todd. Michigan needs to lock this up in the next month or so. I would make a hard sell for the Air Force game. It will be nationally televised, and he could have the whole wine and cheese party to himself.

This is basically what we (Michigan fans) were telling OSU fans when they started thinking they had a shot at Jordan Diamond last year after he had a really strong visit to Columbus.

  • Getting Green would just be the icing on the cake to an already stellar class for you guys. Good luck!

agreed, especially if AU drops off the board for him. Anything can happen but I think in the end he's Blue.

  • If he wants to be a great running back at a school with RB tradition like no other, then obviously Virginia Tech is the place to go. He even dyed the top of his head Hokie orange.

  • Can a player take more then 1 official visit to the same school? And I assume they could take an official and unofficial in short proximity also to the same school?

  • The fact that Ole Miss is even mentioned following a 2-10 season speaks wonders of the job that Coach Freeze is doing. Here's to hoping for miracles.
