Rest of Big 10

  • Purdue might be our toughest match up of the season. I have not been impressed with OSU even though they've put up a lot of points, they don't look real strong on Defense and really outside of Braxton have nothing. Nebraska is also another team I have not been impressed with and it has nothing to do with them losing. Taylor Martinez still can't throw and without Burkhead they really struggle consistently moving the ball. I think we take that game in Lincoln. Honestly...Purdue took ND to the last second and they look legit. What do y'all think?

  • Purdue looked better than they are because Notre Dame is worse than we thought.

OSU is good though, and by the end of the season, at least their defense will be top notch. I agree about their offense.

I hate to say it...but the best looking team so far has been MSU.

  • I wouldn't say MSU has looked great though. They struggled big time against a completely decimated Boise St team that they should have crushed. It took 50 touches by Bell to do that. They can't throw the ball and I have the utmost confidence in Mattison that he will not let Bell beat him....so good luck Maxwell. They look 'ok' at best right now along with the rest of the Big 10. And OSU's D is not and will not be top notch this year.

  • Im not sure we know anything yet honestly. Thank god we have a bye week after ND to prepare for what I think would be a trip up game vs Purdue. I think alot of games will go down to the wire this year for Michigan....let's hope they go our way. MSU so far, definitely looks the best imo.

MSU is still getting the kinks out, just like everyone else. The defense will be improving every week and will be tough to beat for anyone. The offensive line needs a lot of work, but what do you expect from a rookie QB? I do think Maxwell will be a really good QB, and he was finally getting comfortable the 2nd half of the game yesterday. MSU's receivers need some work too, but they did make some good catches yesterday.

I'm sure you won't have a problem with Mass. next week. ND is always one of those teams that can just screw everything up, even if they're not that good. It's hard to win in sound bend. So that game is in the air.

  • We would've lost yesterday if it wasn't for Braxton. We're(including Urbs) pissed at the defensive coaches because we're still playing this "break don't bend" bs where our corners are playing 7 yards off the receiver and we only rush 3 guys. We have one of the best DLs in the nation and two of the best players in the nation in Hank and Simon and our DLine is looking as bad as yours.

IMO we have too many DTs and not enough Noah Spence type ends.

Air Force and Navy are always tough outs

  • Let's see how teams do vs decent competition. The only game of consequence this coming weekend is MSU v ND

State has the home field advantage and Kelly just screwed the pooch by subbing Rees for his starting QB to pull out the Purdue game.

It's at night, I believe and the Spartans are feeling good about themselves. I'll be watching that game closely since we play both in the near future.

I think that OSU will still be Michigan's toughest match up for rest of the season. Braxton Miller is only going to get better throughout the season as he gets more comfortable in the first year of Myers offense. I agree with you on Nebraska. Martinez turns the ball had too much and is still not a great threat passing the ball downfield. Burkhead has had trouble staying healthy as well. Good post Moon.

Agree. It's a bit early to cast teams. Some of these teams considered good might turn out turrible.

We'll let you know after Sept. 29. I'm still not impressed with spread offenses in the Big 10...

Agreed. It's funny how much OSU this year reminds me of Denard/Michigan 2010.

Nonetheless, this season is off to a horrific start for the majority of B1G teams.

With Denard and Braxton running the ball at their current pace(as a percentage of total offense), I hope they both can stay healthy enough to play in "The Game". Alot of games to be played between now and November 24th. At their current rate, odds are not good for them both to be healthy by the time November gets here. Hopefully this slows somewhat once the BIG games begin.

I know you don't want to hear this, but you guys look eerily similar to our 2009 and 2010 teams under RR albeit with more raw talent on defense. And Braxton Miller looks eerily similar to Denard. He is a one man show who needs a lot of work on his passing. If you run him 25 times a game, he will not survive the season. He is not as big and durable as guys like Tim Tebow and Cam Newton.

  • I do think that MSU is currently the best team in the conference, but some teams will improve, some will stay the same, and some will regress as the season unfolds. Long way to go.

As for Michigan's schedule, playing in Lincoln and in Columbus won't be easy. I agree that neither team has looked great yet, but those will be two tough atmospheres to win in on the road.

Good thought. I think Denard Robinson did a good job of avoiding big hits from Air Force defenders, but like you said, theres a lot of football to play before now and Nov. 24th!

  • Braxton may not be as big as Tebow and Newton, but 6'2 220 is not a small quarterback. Jordan Hall returning will take the burdent off Miller running the ball so much.

Grain of salt man. No one knows exactly how good Boise is this year. MSU struggled in the opener also - only scored 28 points against Youngstown state last year, when they had 5 or 6 guys on offense who are now on NFL rosters.

About the offense: what kind of performance would you want to see before you say "yea, they're passing game is pretty decent"?

Well not having 3 ints againts Boise would be a start. Nothing Maxwell could of done against Central is going to impress me. It's Central. So no I am not impressed with Maxwell yet. He has looked exactly the way i expected. He is not anywhere near as good as Cousins was last year. Maybe he will get there next year but not this year.

  • I'm not selling the msu win over Boise as lowly as most here are. Boise is an incredibly coached team, and are hard to beat no matter when or where you play them. I think that has been by far the best win for the B10 so far.

I think msu looks like the early team to beat, but anything can happen.

Our D-Line has got to get it figured out, if we have to make adjustments to get more penetration that will leave the D vulnerable over the top as you've seen w/ Kovacs already.

    thevictor_11

  • Before I say I respect the passing game....I need to see Maxwell complete the easy/routine throws first. I know...I know...Denard doesn't do it either, but Maxwell is a Pocket Passer. So until he proves to me that he can make the easy throws, then I'm not real impressed by your offense right now. Not to say they won't come around cause they prolly will, just like ours hopefully.
