Reschke Lands Michigan Offer

  • EF_Wolverine said...

"I would like to push this back until after Friday," Reschke told 247Sports when asked about Michigan. "I want to be totally focused on winning a state championship."

Note he didn't say "it's a nice offer, but I'm fully committed to Michigan State."

I think mandb21 is mostly right. I think msu d is better. They go 3 and out on offense and we move the ball to keep our d off the field. That poor msu defense basically has to stay on the field constantly and it still finds a way to keeps them in every game. They are probably more athletic as well. Now I like aspects of our defense and Mattison much better, but they have some players over there and thise guys are good.

Where are all you guys getting this MSU clearly has the better defense. If you look at the stats they are very close all the way down the line no glaring abnormalities pointing to one being clearly better than the other.

I watch both teams as I am sure we all do and the thing that negates all this athleticism MSU has on that side of the ball is they make at least three absolute BONE HEAD uncalled for penalties every single game.

Then you guys are promoting their great defensive coordinator to head coach soon. I don't get that at all. If I was running a program and wanted to hire a new coach the discipline of their team would be very high on the list. MSU's defense is notoriously undisciplined.

I can agree with that as well. IMHO, I think MSU and UM defenses are pretty even right now, but we're on the way up an they're on the way out.

This is how I look at it. Especially if we take away MSU's best defensive recruit for this cycle, there's only so much you can do when you're not landing the Will Gholstons of the world. MSU had a nice little run, but they've peaked, and they've lost the recruiting advantage they had when RichRod was here. That's all there is to it.

  • Look, their defense is good. That's all I'm saying. I saw them do things to northwestern that we couldn't do. We get hurt by these option type teams and they are not soft on the edges. We a great against Iowa type teams but so are they with bullough. I think we are really good too.

  • Over/Under is 13

Do you take MSUs defense to allow over or under 13 at Minnesota this weekend?

(Thats what UM gave up @ Minn)

**Minn scored 24 with 413 yards at Sparty last year.

Over, but not by much. I predict 16, a TD and 3 FGs.

I was gonna go with 17 but Minns best WR just left the team. lol

So now i'm gonna say 16.

Michigan's pass defense really isn't that good, but every opposing team is choosing to try to run anyway? So you're saying it's clear to you that the defense isn't that good, but every other Big Ten coach can't seem to spot the same deficiencies as you?

No, because B1G can't pass and the offenses are run based. Of the qualified starters, Taylor Martinez has the highest passer rating with a 150.9, which is also good for 30th in the nation. He also has the highest rating by 10 points, so not exactly the best passing league.

While I believe JR stays Green ... the fact he would not address it so quickly does imply he wants to think about it. Worried Sparty? Shane and JR are best friends - and nobody can change that one.

This is exactly how I feel on this subject. I think their defensive numbers are really skewed by having an atrocious offense. And I don't think by any stretch that by saying MSU's defense is better is an insult to our D.

Michigan has the #1 pass defense, but it's because teams really don't throw against us. The completion percentage is 58%, so it's not anything insanely good.

If you don't want to go purely off stats, look at the Northwestern game when the backup QB came in and torched us.

UM also hasn't faced any good passing offenses this season

the best passing offense UM has faced to date is #68 Purdue.. and has faced 8 teams worse tha #75

  • So it's Michigan's fault that they haven't faced more pass-oriented teams? lol

Can't have it both ways. Their defense is still not demonstrably inferior to MSU's despite having played against Alabama, Nebraska, weird Air Force, and ND - all without their starting CB. Forgot that, eh?

Michigan State is giving up 1.2 pts and 14 yards less per game.

    Wow.

  • Who honestly cares who's defense is better? The teams have already played this year.

What I am interested in is whether Michigan will close out with wins in the Game and on the recruiting trail. Reschke would be a good catch, but I just don't see us turning him. Worth a shot in my opinion, though.

If they are recruiting Reschke for Sam are they projecting McCray at Mike?

I see McCray as a SAM. I don't know enough about Reschke to know a spot for him, but pretty sure MSU fans have said that he's the heir apparent at MIKE behind Bullough for them.

Id say it's unlikely. McCray has the potential to quite possibly outgrow the linebacker position altogether with his size. He'll definitely come in as a Sam

I'll throw a different view out there because I thought McCray was a MIKE, Gedeon could play any of the three, and that Reschke would clearly be a WILL in our defense.

The SAM has to rush the passer and drop back into coverage a lot, which from what I read was not Reschke's strongest trait. Our WILL spot is where Desmond Morgan plays, so if Reschke is a similar, but better, version of Morgan that would be the ideal spot for him with Gedeon sliding over to SAM?
