him and shane morris are best friends and I'm pretty sure he wanted a michigan offer badly. but this makes me think that LT, LMlll and DG are not looking good for michigan. your going to offer a LB after you were full at LB and you turned down levenberry when he tried to talk to the coaches again. looks like the coaches are looking for new players to fill the last two or three spots

you tell them here's the deal. we are full at the lb position and if you want to visit you can still visit just in case we get a de-commitment. we can't accept a commitment from you now, but you are still welcome to visit; it's your decision. If we get a de-commitment, we will accept your commitment. that's what they should say. I hate that they completely stop recruiting a kid and tell them not to visit.

IMO, the coaches turned down Levenberry because it was obvious his dad was using potential visits as leverage to get more attention from the FSU staff. The article had his dad talking about other recruits getting more love and so because of that EJ might start taking visits. Well, shortly after that the coaches started calling him and what do you know, he's never taken a visit elsewhere.
It could just be the coaches looking over the roster and realizing they have a bigger need at LB than they expected. If Conley takes visits like he's been talking about, maybe they want to push for another LB instead of a DB. Raymon Taylor has looked great this year, and if they feel Blake is recovering well enough to be ready for Spring ball, they have two top CBs, some decent backups, 3 guys coming this year, and then a bunch of top prospects interested in 2014. At LB, we've burned the redshirts of Ross, Bolden, and RJS. Ringer and Poole have been hurt all year. Morgan has been battling injuries for 2 years now. Cam Gordon may or may not come back for a 5th year knowing he's been behind Jake Ryan for 2 years now. So if they could land a kid they feel is good enough, while also taking a top player away from their rival, and have the ability to redshirt him for future depth, it's a big win.
Whether or not he'll show interest is the big question mark though.

So I ask the question to you and others, what should the coaches have done?
Here are the facts. Coming into the 2013 class the coaches knew what positions had to be filled and the numbers per position to fill with. They also knew the current roster and knew they wanted to fill specific positions at LB. they communicated to every LB they offered that they were only taking 2 LBs.
So if you wanted the coaches to keep a line in the water by that I assume you mean let anzalone and o'daniel visit. Lets say o'daniel visited and now was ready to commit. The coaches already had Gedeon in the wings and McCray on board so they wouldn't accept o'daniels commitment because that, at the time, would be overloading at that position because o'daniel projects to WLB. So by telling a kid no thanks after he spent his own money to visit, you don't think that would burn a bridge quicker than being upfront and telling him they are full? I have a feeling the coaches didn't like the way Levenberry jerked around during his recruitment so perhaps the red flags got mounted around his name on their board.
This most recent offer, he isn't projecting WLB, likely more SLB. So to star69 post, we turned down kids like o'daniel and anzalone because they were WLB, a position that reschke does not project to so the question is moot.

We shall see. As much as Sparty states he is a "legacy", JR could have quelled this when the story broke and said MSU forever. The fact that he did not tells me:
1. This caught him off guard. 2. He wants time to think about it.
Now ... why offer another LB when we have so many studs? This is the $1M dollar question. And ... to all the Spartys posting he would be better off in a MSU defense. Really? Your record sucks ... Michigan recruits ELITE defensive talent .... our pass defense is #1 in the country .... and we have Mattison.
If JR wants to play with elite playmakers, his best friend, and a former NFL coach .... this is a no-brainer.

Meh, I dont think so:
Against BIG competition:
Scoring Defense Mich.................15.3 pts a game Scoring Defense MSU..................19.9 pts a game
Total Defense Mich....................284.6 yrds a game Total defense MSU.....................321.3 yds a game
Not sure how else to measure this. UM gives up 3 more yards a game on the ground but leads in just about every other defensive category.

Michigan has the #1 pass defense, but it's because teams really don't throw against us. The completion percentage is 58%, so it's not anything insanely good.
If you don't want to go purely off stats, look at the Northwestern game when the backup QB came in and torched us.
