Reeves is getting Plan B in order

West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial four-star CB Armani Reeves is hoping things workout with his commitment to Penn State, but if not he's considering two other schools.

Interesting quotes there.. The staff was recruiting Yuri Wright even before Standifer decommitted. So I had assumed they would now look at 2 CBs potentially. The quote about "they'd be happy to take me and be done" makes me think otherwise.

Also odd that Yuri Wright tweeted something about never talking to Coach Hoke, but Reeves has had phone calls with Hoke and Mattison. Definitely more details to what Sam Webb said on the radio about Reeves possibly being the highest CB on the coaches board.

Have that feeling as well and for the reasons i stated in the other thread. Ready to play right now and plays both ways

Reeves definitely was higher until he committed to PSU. But I am not sure why would wouldn't take both if we could get them. We have five spots remaining and the coaches clearly want another OL and TE. Assuming we get those and assuming we also get both Reeves and Wright, we still have one spot remaining for a second WR. Maybe they are thinking they still want another RB (or at least want to leave room in case Dunn flips), but short of that I don't know what would prevent us from taking both Reeves and Wright.

I see the final 5 spots being :

    - Dunn is top on their board, IMO, so a spot is held for him until he reaffirms to OSU.
    - A second WR is critical, there will be a spot used for one.
    - CB - they were looking at Yuri, and no Standifer is gone, so definitely use a spot on a CB
    - TE - You don't bring in a TE on an official visit (Grant) if you aren't serious about adding one. So I think they get one.
    - OL - Still bringing in OL on visits and potentially offering new ones. There will be another in this class.

If Dunn sticks with OSU I think the spot goes up for grabs to the best available, but I don't think they take a different RB.

Agree on the Dunn part, he is the one and only RB we would take. If he recommits to OSU today then we will take the best player available. Diggs, Wright, etc.

Wright might be a better overall athlete and for that reason he might have more upside potential, but Reeves is more polished. Everyone is just assuming that Wright will develop better, but that's not guaranteed. And it's not like Reeves isn't an elite corner. I can see reasons for preferring each one depending on the situation, but if I could only pick one I would take Reeves. It's more of a sure thing.

Yeah. I keep hearing everyone say that we do not need another elite corner on the field right away. I disagree. Countess is going to be great. But, Floyd is just ok. Avery has potential, but I don't think he is as good as Countess. And IMO neither Floyd nor Avery would ever be starting CBs in LSU's secondary and that should be our goal. If we can get both Wright and Reeves, take 'em both. Who knows which one will turn out better in the long term, but we need both ST and LT improvement in the secondary and Reeves is more likely to see the field on a regular basis earlier.

The argument about not needing somebody right away doesn't make sense to me when I read it. If a kid can play right away, that means they have a low-floor in terms of talent, and should get better over time. Also means they are less likely to be a bust if they look good enough to compete immediately.

The one I want most is the one who commits first. lol

The thing that's really crazy is that we are discussing these options at all. I mean, we are seriously arguing about which elite DB we want. Hoke & Co. have totally changed the landscape in a single year. However we finish off this class, it will be the best one in recent memory. It almost certainly will be ranked in the top 5 and could end up in the top 2-3 and we will have made major strides at all positions of need. Compared to the previous 2-3 years, it is like we have entered a parallel universe.

  • I want both guys, and I think Hoke takes both if they want to come.

  • When Reeves committed to PSU, Michigan moved on and Wright was next In the crosshairs... Now that Reeves is back to looking, I think he is back at the top of the list... Seems like within one or two days there is a different feel in regards with Wright and Michigan. Few days ago I felt real good about Michigan landing him, now... Not so confident.

I just don't see it that way. With Standifer's departure, Reeves committing would leave us basically where were two weeks ago...still looking at one more DB. Now, the coaches may decide they have enough, and focus on another position, but I have seen no evidence to support that.

Word has it he really wanted to go to OSU with his linebacker teammate, but was told they don't want another CB but a Safety instead..

makes a ton of sense since he told reporters he wanted to stay home because he had a in-home with Mattison and Hoke

    LOL.

Not to mention, OSU likes their lower rated DBs better than 5* DBs...at least, that is what they keep telling me.

Even the best laid plans sometimes go awry. That oft-mentioned phrase could easily be used to describe how Armani Reeves' recruitment has unfolded.

  • Yeah, some good information at where he is at. Reeves is unlikely to make any decision before Yuri Wright, if I read the article correctly. Unless Penn St. hires a ridiculous coach or something.

  • With Dunn staying at Ohio does that mean we have to find someone to EE to take 28 commits?

No, we still have three. Ringer, Bolden, and Wilson IIRC.
