Rankings October 14th : AP: #23 Coaches #25

  • First BCS rankings coming later on.

Two things about the AP poll, one, if you want to see how little respect the conference gets: there's two Big Ten teams in the top 25, Ohio State and us and we're barely in.

Secondly, OSU moved up to 7th place for the feat of hanging on to beat the mighty Indiana Hoosiers and letting them put nearly 50 on their D. Logic would dictate that Indiana must be something like the 10th best team in the country then. It just goes to show what I said a few weeks back, good losses are losses, crappy wins are wins. The poll voters don't give (enough of) a damn who you play.

  • No one believes Ohio State is the 7th best team in the nation. Even Urban doesn't.

This. Plus, I don't think our ranking really matters anyway. We can't go for the national title anyways, and our bowl is completely determined by how we finish in the B1G. Our ranking is basically useless to us for the rest of the year.

I don't think it's irrelevant because I think it affects national perception which in turn affects revenue and recruiting.

even us buckeye fans dont think we are the 7th best team in the nation. most of us are disgusted with our defense and in turn our defensive coordinator and are calling for him to be fired. we also recognize though that we had a lot of injuries this game but its true, our defense looks miserable right now. trust me when i say we do not look forward to our defense trying to stop denard.
as for your point about the respect for the BIG. yeah thats equally as sad. hopefully our 2 programs can be the flagship programs of old once again.

Most of us tOSU fans agree also. If our D improves significantly by the end of the year I'll buy it, but I expect we'll fall dramatically in the poll if we lose a game. Glad you all are helping keep a 2nd BIG team in the polls. What an abysmal year for the conference!

  • Am I seeing that right? Ohio (the real ohio) is ranked? lol

Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Nebraska would murder them

    This.

How do you guys feel like we stack up with the teams above us? I think we'd be comfortable favorites against
    #22 Stanford
    #21 Cincinnati
    #20 TAMU
    #19 Rutgers
    #16 Louisville
    #15 Mississippi State

I'm not sure about how we'd match up against WVU...they'd stand no chance at all of stopping Denard, and they folded this week the first time they faced any kind of defensive resistance, but at the same time you have to feel like Geno Smith would pick our secondary apart.

I like our chances against Clemson, Florida State, and Georgia...think we'd be somewhere between slight favorites and slight underdogs against any of them. Not a believer in Oregon State, like our chances against Ohio State, and I think we'd take ND if we got another shot at em. I think we'd also likely have a good shot at USC and Kansas State.

So, that leaves me with only 6 teams (Alabama, Oregon, Florida, LSU, USCe, and Oklahoma) that I think we'd be really significant underdogs to, and another 8 that I think we're on more or less the same level as, meaning our "true" place in the pecking order this year is somewhere around 9th-13th. Agree? Or am I wearing rose-tinted glasses and chugging homerjuice?

It really is. Wisconsin and Northwestern are the only other teams I think can make a reasonable case that thy're good enough to be ranked, but neither of them should be based on their achievements thus far. It's really a pathetic state of affairs imo.

I think until we beat MSU and then Nebraska I'm not sold on a top 10 ranking. Top 15 is where I see it right now.

well i dont knoiw how true that is, i mean the bobcats are 7-0 albeit their last 3 wins have not been impressive, but they did beat penn state who beat northwestern, so i dont know if it would be a murder

The good old transitive property? By that formula between CMU, Iowa, and MSU, CMU is the best team because they beat Iowa, who beat MSU

bro you know thats not what i said. all i said was i dont think it would be a BLOW OUT. after all they are undefeated and beat some good teams. and using the transitive property that you mentioned its reasonable to believe that it would at least be competitive.
just because we are fans of different teams doesnt mean we have to be like politicians and disagree and criticize every little post. man i try to be reasonable when i talk on this board but its getting old everytime having someone like you being critical when i say something. i guess i could just try staying on my own board though

  • I go to school at OU and the bobcats are legit this year. They should easily win the Mac east. Central, ball state, and northern Illinois are good teams in the Mac west. I think OU could hang and potentially beat the bottom 6 teams in the big ten.

If Central is considered a good team then the MAC is even more awful then I thought. That idiot Enos destroyed that program, hard to believe when I was there a few years ago CMU was dominating
