Quick Lincoln Guide

  • I try and drop this on visiting teams boards before the game, I will be at the game (in the Michigan section) and can answer any questions you all have.

    Food: (Downtown)
Misty's downtown is usually a favorite; the marching band will come through the night before and play Nebraska songs, I believe they play the opposing teams fight song as well.

Other places to try: Buzzard Billy's(Southern/Gumbo), Brix and Stone (a quiet, yet delicious place!), Dojo (Sushi, in the Haymarket).

Pizza, try Lazzari's or Yia Yia's.

Another place for great food is Lazlos. Delicious food, and a microbrewery on site. "The Oven" has incredible Indian food if you're in the mood for something different.

Good Friday night bar for "talent"?

This weekend will be packed downtown with Halloween costumes and parties. Be prepared.

Barry's has just been remodeled and looks great! I imagine it will be stuffed pre-game Saturday.

Brothers bar has the college scene. Lots of ladies there, but if a fratty place isn't your style, try Iguanas or Main St. The Downtown usually has gals dancing like crazy, especially later in the night. There are about 20 bars within two or three blocks of 14th and O, so you should be able to find something you like.

Good pre/post game bar for watching games?
Brothers, The Watering Hole, BWW or Old Chicago all have big TV's available.

Any "gotta try_________" institutions, breakfast, sandwich, ice cream, etc.?
Wings- The Watering Hole: get them "grilled"!

Drinks: Sandy's--Elk Creek Water. Tastes like juice, but its actually everclear, vodka, rum and the kitchen sink. Some folks drink it from the pitcher. Those folks are usually unresponsive the next day.

Cliff's Lounge--They make mixed drinks that feature very, very, very, little mixers. I would NOT exceed three drinks from here if you plan on drinking other places. The big seller is "Shark Water".

Duffy's--They've got fishbowls. Grab some friends, make some enemies, have a fishbowl race. Lots of fun.

Also, if you're toting a gal or fruity buddy, they may enjoy a bomb-pop from Iguana

Post-game food: After drinking all night, there are the usual sandwich shops downtown (Jimmy Johns, Subway). But if you're a fan of gyros, check out either Gourmet Grill or Ali Babas. They sit next to each other on the corner of 14th and O St. If you're not staying downtown, try a D'Leons burrito--they may be the official drunk food of Lincoln, NE.

Try an Empyrean Brewing Company beer while you're here. You can get those at Lazlo's and other fine eateries and retailers here.

  • 3 views in 2 hours. Looks like Mich won't be representing in Lincoln. Good.

    Ducksworth

  • Ducksworth, I wish I was joining you there. As for STOOBIE's guide I was say it is very good. My co worker grew up there and said everything was great.
One thing you should try in Nebraska is a Runza. It is a meat pie with ground beef and cabbage cooked in a bread dough. They are very good.
