Possibly another commit soon

  • I have learned a very valuable lesson today. I was seeking to understand why Michigan's recruiting has been so successful since Coach Hoke came on board. I certainly chose my words poorly when saying I was "calling shenanigans" if Poggi chose Michigan over Alabama. I genuinely only meant I am too close to the situation to understand how it happened.

Addressing UMRSB now, I only have my posts on tRCMB to prove that I really strive to not be "typical MSU." Given the posting history between the two schools we support I understand why you are cynical about my intent.

Anyway, thank you to those of you who have helped try to gain an understanding into how Michigan recruits so well. I hope in the future we can have more rational conversations.

What factor does Wilkins play into this equation with Green?

If Green will not be in A2 till summer, and has a tentative decision date set for NSD, could Wilkins up-stage him by pulling the trigger much sooner? Would Michigan take a commitment sooner from Wilkins, or gamble on Green?

    confused

I say take Wilkins if he is ready.

I don't think to much about what you post here compared to what you post there. Respect where you are at is all that can be expected.

I think its as simple as Michigan is Michigan. Traditional powers will always rise back to the top. Sure there is an ebb and flow, but inevitably those select schools will continually be amongst the nations elite.

There's a reason why Michigan is the all-time wins leader. I think part of it is just ingrained into sports culture. It's how it's been since before our grand daddys were conceived. It just is. Sort of like sweet tea in the south. You drink sweet tea in the south. Why? You just do. Maybe a bad analogy, but you get my point.

Combine that with the fact that the traditional powers have a larger fan base, which equals more revenue, and it's a continuous cycle. Go check the biggest budgets for recruiting in football and you'll see a list of the who's who.

Its a badge of honor to be recruited by these top tier schools. It's like winning a golden ticket.

It's nearly impossible to get accepted into the IT club, unless you are a program backed by Nike, the way Oregon is.

Such is life. And the cycle continues. Michigan will always hold more prestige in CFB then MSU. There's really not a lot that can be done about it.

Sounds arrogant, I know, but it's also reality.

As to why Michigan has specifically upped its recruiting prowess under Hoke, he's obviously good at what he does, and is at the helm of one of the biggest names in the sport. Rich Rod was an outlier. Traditionally UM has reeled in top ten class after class.

Yeah, specifically a RCMB poster named Skip has been especially two-faced, coming over here having something resembling a reasonable conversation and then lying on his board about what he was hearing from Michigan fans. There's some sensitivity there.

I don't really appreciate any "shenanigans" comments, but there is a difference between your comments and the two-faced misrepresentations Skip was throwing out. Its always gonna be tough to keep reasonable conversations going between these two fan bases, but I appreciate outside points of view whenever they can be expressed in a calm and reasonable manner.

    As for your question:

Michigan has actually been somewhat poor in situations like Poggi's. I can't really knock this staff's recruiting at all, but they have not done particularly well when they have competed directly with undecided recruits. Levenberry, Isaac, Garnett all had prolonged recruiting process and went in the other direction. In my estimation, these coaches are really good at identifying kids who are really interested in the Michigan program, making those kids feel like family, and removing any doubt that Michigan will be the right place for them to play.

Ultimately, this staff is targeting high character guys and is doing a fantastic job of finding them.

As for Poggi, I believe Alabama had recently added a DT commit and may have been recruiting Poggi as a TE. So Michigan may have just been a better fit for Poggi.

Garnett and Levenberry were uphill battles from the beginning and both were luxuries at the time of their recruitments. Issac was a loss no doubt, I thought we were going to get him.

FTR, I am one of those RCMB guys...but I am seeking to understand how UM keeps landing studs. Clearly I am too close to the situation to understand so I thought I'd come to the guys who would be in the know.
