Possibly another commit soon

  • if you guys listened to recruiting roundup on wtka couple days ago. sam webb hinted that michigan should pick up a commitment from someone we weren't really expecting or stopped talking about. mathis green poggi?

    Wolverines89

  • Clearly it was Poggi, with the new evidence. Why OSU would be mad is the one thing I don't get in all this...maybe just because we get a top line guy?

But Poggi committing would complete our DL nicely, with still one spot possibly remaining.

    Because ohio is always mad.

I'm one of the few who preferred Augusta to Poggi, but if the coaches see it the other way then who am I to question that?

An article a few weeks ago said Augusta is being recruited at both defensive tackle and strongside defensive end so maybe there's still a spot for him. Can you imagine a DL with Hurst and Augusta? Those two have serious athleticism.

Where does Michigan go from here?

The Wolverines picked up their 18th commitment yesterday. Click inside for an in-depth analysis of where Michigan goes from here in the 2013 recruiting class.

Is it really that hard to believe that Green and Poggi are both committing soon? I still think the commit watch was for Green and then Poggi decided to announce Monday. Green is the only guy Alex from eleven warriors could have been talking about.

It was never green. For one, ever credible analyst has other schools in front of UM currently for green. Two, Green stated himself that he is taking 2 more visits to UM, one during the summer so he can finally meet Hoke and an official. Not to say we may get green eventually down the road, Poggi was the only sensible guess due to the timing of the announcement and other clues (Poggi's article that he was nearing committing in 30 days, and our dline filling up)

Ohio can still not like us getting Poggi. Poggi was high on Ohio's board, they would accept his commitment in a heartbeat. They just were unable to make inroads with him. But just like we would not like jaylon smith going to Ohio, rivals don't like seeing the other guy getting elite talent. But also, the tweet by Alex said "who we may get" so its also possible that Alex thought it was green as well.

FWIW- From the MGoBlog recruiting guy (who is in contact with Tremendous IIRC):

You guys can probably—probably—relax through the weekend. Your work week, on the other hand, may start off with a bang.

That's all I can say right now, though.

Treadwell is the guy I would like the most, he has visited OSU and most likely ends up a five star wide out. This would definitely be a bang.

I remember this article as well Butte. I for one certainly hope Augusta is still given the opportunity to join (even if another DT prospect joins first). I've been high on Augusta for a long time too.

  • Browneye fans should be mad at the DL commits Michigan is about to land because their OL recruiting has been basura.... Pocic going to LSU made me so happy... For the simple fact that he is out of the B1G

I'd love Augusta at SDE, that would be my ideal scenario... you think Michigan will still look to take another lineman if it is Poggi that commits on Monday?

The freak athleticism is what is drawing me to Augusta, not nearly as polished as Poggi at this point but his upside is unbelievable. With the coaching staff we have, especially on D-Line, i'm looking for upside in recruits because I know they'll get the proper coaching.

I think they want one more DL, preferably a SDE. I think Augusta has not be locked out yet. At this point, other than WR we are looking at best available for up to three spots. Another DL, CB, and RB would be idea.

This presumes, of course, that we land Poggi. lol

It appears they're still in search of a SSDE for this class. Good point about the staff and a recruit's upside.

I don't believe Augusta has an (commitable) offer. There may still be questions off the field that have to be answered. I agree that another DL, strongside is possible but its certainly not a need if Poggi commits. We are also high with Bower, Teller, and Muhammad plus coaches see Poggi playing multiple positions on the line.

Stop with the non committable/ committable offers. There is no such thing, every offer is committable. If the coaching staff doesn't want him to commit they will pull his offer. I'm not so sure Augusta has an offer though, something with academics.

  • The 11Warriors tweet was referencing Poggi. Alex blatantly says it in these quick hitters from yesterday.

Well let me clarify, I don't believe he has an offer. Though the.Bucknuts like throwing around the term, it is common practice to offer a kid and not accept his commit since the official offers aren't sent to prospects until Sept sir

You've said this quite a few times recently, why do you feel so strongly? Recruiting is a very delicate game and I guarantee you there are such things as non-committable offers. Some schools have assistant coaches throw offers out there to get kids interested, but say they have to come visit and get final approval from the head coach. It is a way to build relationships, gauge interest, but also have an out without looking like a-holes by "pulling offers."

Its not about sounding like Bucknuts, its true that no one has an official offer yet until Sept so there are offers that coaches will not accept a commitment. Just because Bucknuts exaggerate and make excuses does not make it untrue

I don't like the term because we sound like a bunch of Buckeyes. It's quite simple, you either have an offer, or you don't. If you have an offer, you can commit. If you don't, you can't. The coaches aren't going to say, "Hey, you have an offer, but you can't commit." If the coaches don't want you to commit they will say "We are full at your position, you no longer have an offer to play at the University of _______."

I didn't use the term in the context of a kid not choosing us. I'm just stating facts, Bucknuts use that fact as their easy excuse, big difference.

  • I do wonder if Augusta has an offer that is 'committable' once off the field issues are resolved. WHo know. I know I want the kid.
