Please tell us this isn't true...Michigan Marching Band

  • It will be an unfortunate detraction from what will be an awesome game.

  • Brandon will cave from the pressure.

    buttesnake

  • As of right now it is. Fans are really angry. I do think the band will end up being down there when all is said and done.

  • The anger is quite surprising to me...I think Brandon will have to back down.

  • It would be extremely weird not hearing the band... this has got to change.

I hope so. Biggest game on the biggest stage at the start of the season. No doubt that, just as happens in our part of the country, students, especially music students, see the opportunity to perform on the big stage and are attracted to the university. Hopefully UM officials will rightfully see the cost as an investment rather than an expense and understand that it's a recruiting tool for other students besides football players.

Seriously...how can the UM administration let this game be played without the UM band being shown playing "Hail To The Victors" to a national television audience?

    Some really good points there.

  • Maybe a few of the right donors can let their voices be heard.

  • Does anyone know how much it costs to get the band down there? Just curious.

The article quotes your AD as saying $400,000. There would be transportation, lodging, and the cost of tickets.

I think that you'll find that all of us from our side are pulling for you guys in a big way on this. We're not happy about it either. If it was happening to Auburn, we'd be laughing our a$$es off. But with you guys there's a heathy respect, and we look at this game as basically a game as big as the Sugar Bowl, for example. The decision by the UM administration lessens the experience for Alabama fans also. It won't be the same without your band there.

  • For those in Ann Arbor there is a #MMBtoDallas rally on the Diag at 2 pm. I plan on going as it sucks that they won't be there, especially since they were guaranteed seats, and without them this basically becomes a road game (home game for Alabama) and we would have been much better off doing a home and home with them.

Either he will cave or somebody will front the money. Outrage has surprised me and I think it has to do with basing the decision on $$$. The biggest non-conf game, and one the entire nation will have their eyes on, and our AD wants to save $400k? Seems ludicrous. The band doesn't make a difference, but Brandon has shown how much pageantry, branding, and general marketing means to him with the different uniforms, UTL, and scheduling a game in Jerry World. So why would you want everyone watching on TV to not hear The Victors when a touchdown is scored?

Yeah this seems like a big miscalculation on Brandon's part. I don't understand his thinking unless he's fishing for a donation like others have surmised.

  • The band will be there. An alumni will pay for it. They will raise money. They'll road trip. I don't know how they get there, but they get there.

    I guarantee it.

  • Really had a mixed opinion of Brandon when he got the job as AD from his unbelievable success in Monaghan's old shoes. (sacasm) I think this is a horrible idea not to bring the band. This is an opportunity to show the Michigan brand and all its glory on prime time TV. The Michigan fight song via the Paul Finebaum show "the greatest fight song in college football" left in Ann Arbor.

Mr. Brandon please entertain building and protecting the Michigan brand especially in highly publicized situations. I realize that this was not your strong suit in your former position and I am hoping you have or will learn from that.

I listen to the Paul Finebaum show pretty regularly on satellite and this decision is coming off as Michigan beating themselves.

This decision is not good for college football period.
