It wouldn't have been a 1 season death penalty and then all is good. They would have hit them with similar stuff after that season. With a death penalty, just about every player is gone. They wouldn't have sat there and watched football on tv, they would have left to play the game. Now, most of the kids will stay and finish their career. They will have players leaving, but enough will stay.

i know. im saying a year death penalty only would have been better. i think more kids leave now than if it was only missing football for one year because in 2013 you start football right back up with no setbacks. its like having a red shirt for all the players

How long do they have to get on another roster before camps start?

It looks like the current scholarship count is at 79 according to mgoblog. If true, we could take up to 6 transfers?

They aren't going anywhere. You can't just become a fan of another program. They may become quiet about their fandom, but they will always be rooting for PSU.

im just stating what some psu fans are saying. i cant say if they are gonna go through with it or not.

For 1 year? Probably. Problem is, after that, you would reduce our count by the number of 2013 recruits...so we can take 1 and done players, but anyone else probably not.

Do you think Penn States recruiting class in 1998 would have been as strong if they were to announce their assistant coach was raping little boys in the football shower? Not a chance, that is a competitive advantage, and extremely disgusting.

What do you think that information would have done to their brand moving forward? This would have tarnished it and made it much harder to sustain excellence

The disadvantages PSU managed to avoid are also not consistent with the punishment.

Is the NCAA punishing PSU for sheltering a child rapist or for lying to protect their football program?

We have systems in place that are much better suited than the NCAA if its the former. The punishment isn't even remotely appropriate if it is the latter.

The Baylor scandal(s) of the early 2000s should be a little instructive on this as well.

Presumably, but unless they're all seniors/RS Jrs, there's not much point. We already have to find room for the 22+ kids coming in for 2013, and unless the transfers graduate after this year, they'll start counting against our scholarship limit.

Could take as many as the coaches want, as long as they get it down to 85 the next year. The B1G has yet to announce the sanctions, but they may make it so all the kids that transfer to B1G schools from PSU will be on scholarship, but won't count against the limit at all. We'll find out at 11.

wow! this can get even uglier? their 4 year bowl ban is basically a 10 year ban. i don't see them going to a bowl for ten years. they will be a team full of walk on players

    Wolverines89

  • It looks like anyone that accepts a transfer would have to reduce that amount in following year by the looks of a tweet from Sam Webb....

    Sam Webb ‏@SamWebb77

RT @John_Infante: "So if you take 2 PSU transfers & have 27 initials & 87 total, you would be limited to 23 initial & 83 total next year."

  • I'm guessing 90% of their commits for 2013 will decommit very soon including Hackenburg. Never being able to go to a bowl game is a huge deal and knowing that you can't carry the roster to compete with the big boys is a huge deal.

That is what I mean. All seniors and RS Juniors. Which we all know could use some help on both OL & DL/WR.

  • I completely disagree with this punishment. The NCAA is a joke. I understand why they gave those penalties, and I understand why PSU signed off on them, but they shouldn't be punished by the NCAA. They should be tossed in jail, this is not and was not a football problem.

  • its crazy to think that the man who built this program and made it a national powerhouse is the same man that destroyed this program. all he had to do was make one phone call to the police station and rat out sandusky and none of this will be happening right now. just one call.

  • What if Anthony Zettel comes knocking, what do you think we do then? Do we take him on and "fill-up" the last recruiting spot in '13? Do we pass on him? Or do we take him and keep recruiting hoping/expecting for even more attrition?

I am sure the coaches on watching the BTN spring games and evaluating him. If the PSU scholarship players don't count against the total 85, I would take everyone I can get.

  • I think Hoke et al didn't see Zettel and don't know him...so unlikely they would pass on a guy they really like, say a McQuay, instead of Zettel.

I'd pass, he might not count this year, but he would limit the scholly total for next year to 84.

This. It all comes down to how transfers from PSU count or don't count against scholarship limits. If they don't count, take every kid that is willing.
