PSU problems

  • With the problems going on at PSU, which are very significant. Do you guys think it will affect future recruiting or any of the recruits they currently have? I think this may get them pretty good. I can't see sending my kid to a school where they have been hiding something like this for soooooo long. What do you huys think?

IMO, this is much worse than anything going on at OSU. This is just sickening, really.

The big 2012 recruits that we're competing with them for are:

RB Bri'onte Dunn (OSU commit, but is looking at PSU and UM as well)

DE Noah Spence (heavily favors PSU, but we'll see if that changes)

RB Wes Brown (up in the air, used to favor Miami)

ATH (WR) Stefon Diggs (same as Wes Brown, UM in top five)

ATH (RB) Greg Garmon (Michigan's not that big of a player, but both UM and PSU are still being considered)

PSU Commit CB Armani Reeves (could be back in play if this goes poorly, UM was in his top 3)

PSU Commit NT Tommy Schutt (weird situation where he wanted to visit UM but was turned away, not sure if he's actually interested in UM)

  • Early 2013 battles look to be:

ATH (LB) Ben Gedeon (probably favors ND or OSU, but UM is up there)

TE Adam Brenemen (subject of Clint's upcoming article)

    OT Patrick Kugler

    LB TIm Kimbrough

    WR LaQuon Treadwell

    RB Ty Isaac

    OT Kyle Bosch

    DE/RB Wyatt Shallman

Kimbrough is a heavy lean to tOSU. Don't think I've heard PSU mentioned with this kid..

  • I agre that this is the worst thing going on in college sports. I would think it would have to affect them. It looks like JoePa may be done very very soon too. Which means the whole staff is done after this season. We kind of expected that but this is a little different than everyone thought it would play out. This is Sooooooooo bad. How do you coach with someone for 30 years and at least pick up on something like this? Maybe he was very good at hiding it but that's pretty hard to believe.

  • This is the beginning of the end for JoePa...and what a sad way to go. There is no way that he avoids taking some of the blame for this.

He wants to visit there, or at least he did. He also said that he wants to look seriously at UM and some others.

This is so crazy that it is hard to even believe. That being said it is testimony to a Grand Jury, so you must presume it is true.

  • OSU and Miami were doing shady things behind the scenes, some of it being illegal, to attract talent and help win on the field. This Penn State stuff is just criminal without anything to do with football. It's sickening and there will be major changes in the offseason. The AD is clearly going to be gone, and even though they are deflecting anything from JoePa, there is a good chance he is quietly asked to retire. They have a legit shot at Urban Meyer and cleaning house might be a good selling point to him. I don't see how JoePa coaches next year because it will just be a reason for the media to keep bringing this story up..

Well the AD and VP already stepped down. That whole situation is just disgusting, people like that deserve to burn.

  • Understandable to wonder how it will affect recruiting, but this kind of situation is so sickening I don't even want to ask questions like, "How might Michigan benefit from this?" It's just horrifying all the way around and you hope everyone who had anything to do with covering it up is gone from PSU. They need a fresh start at every level.

Wow.. how much more embarrassing can this get for Penn State?

This is really just beyond awful, I still can't believe it. It goes way beyond football or athletics in general. This is just sick.

JoePa cannot possibly be the coach next year. Tressel got forced out for cheating, so how can Paterno not get forced out for essentially hiding child abuse for a decade.

Even if his defense of "I told the AD" was acceptable, when you see they do nothing it's up to you to go to the cops. And to still let the guy in the facilities to this day? Craziness.

    Dizzo

  • Yeah, it was terrible.

    Penn St>Miami>OSU imo, pretty sickening

ESPN did. He said he's still solid but that he would open back up if his recruiter and most of the coaches leave

  • I am listening to Michigan grad Art Regner on Detroit Sports Talk WDFN 1130AM right now absolutely ripping penn state. He is saying the B1G should be proactive and kick penn state out of the B1G. And ya know what? I think he is right honestly. Any institution that knows of abusing children like that, and doesn't report that and this doesn't come out in over ten years: does not DESERVE to be in the B1G.

I would refuse to schedule penn state if I were Dave Brandon, if they stay in the conference or not. Protest them being in the league. Paterno's legacy is tarnished forever. The program is tarnished forever. This is horrific and disturbing on so many levels the more I think about it.

It's one thing to play with ineligible players, paying players or taking money. But when someone is abusing children like that. They deserve to be removed from the B1G.

so if all offending parties are dismissed, why punish the university's current students, their student -athletes and the alumni who obviously had NO idea this was happening? As for Art Regner? I'd hate to rummage through his closet...

LOL at the Regner comment. Don't really care for him too much but I thought he was on point with what he was saying today.

Most of that post I wrote was mostly based on emotion. In my opinion though, keeping penn state around would be saying child abuse & molestation is okay.
