  • If u could pick one recruit who is uncommitted right now that u would want to commit to Michigan, who would it be and why? It can be in the 2013, 2014, or 2015 class. The catch is he has to be someone who is on Michigan's board. Either someone we have contacted or someone that has interest in Michigan. My pick is Treadwell. We need wide receiver talent so badly. We have the elite oline, qb, and rb. We need someone to stretch the field and keep the safeties out if the box. I like the receivers we have committed but I think we need some elite talent out there and right now we don't have it.

  • Treadwell by a mile. We have DeVeon at RB and we have a lot of CBs committed. We don't have a playmaker WR yet.

  • I'm going to go with Da'Shawn Hand. He is a freak pass rusher, who can also stuff the run. At this point, the only thing the Michigan defense currently lacks in a game changing defensive end and that could push Michigan's defense among the elite.

    Blanding is a good pick. I think I would go with Hand in the 2014 class and def agree with your 2015 pick. Imagine if we get green this year and then Harris in 2015. Yaaaa buddy!

  • Fun question. Definetly have to go defense in this case. I love Treadwell but WR would be pretty far down on my list as far as positions go.

    Brown - 2014 would be a great pickup.
    Hand, McDowell, Peppers, or Blanding would be awesome.

    I don't think there is another logical choice. We need a big-time WR. We're fine at RB and are loaded on defense. An extra DB or DL would be somewhat of a luxury at this point. We could take 2 big-time WR's and I wouldn't consider either a luxury.

    2014-McDowell
    Hand might be more talented than McDowell (for now) but I could not stand watching McDowell play anywhere else but Michigan. Hand, on the other hand, I am not expecting to see him in the Maize n Blue regardless.

  • 2013- Treadwell, this one is close. But I'm a big fan of DeVeon Smith and a elite WR could bring this class over the top.
    2014- DaShawn Hand, I get Blanding, but nothing compares to having a monster DE. It completely shuts down half the field.
    2015- Damien Harris. It's early, and this might be a little too premature, but the hype is unreal.

    versatility is much more appealing. I love Peppers, but our depth at CB and S over the past few classes is stable, and all
    though getting elite players are every position is the goal, its "less" of a need

    completely agree, I was really hoping for us to take another DE in this class. We haven't had a dominant pass rusher since Brandon Graham and bringing one in will take the defense to another level.

    Hopefully Jake Ryan can further develop his pass rushing skills. Would love to see a consistent pass rusher on this team!

    Also would go with D Green over Treadwell. If you can pound the rock you can pass the ball.

    I agree. The fact that we have DeVeon Smith, Thomas Rawls, and even Fitz next year means that our instant need at RB isn't that great. Our instant need at WR is huge. We'll lose Gardner when he transitions to QB, and our best returning WRs will be under 6'0. Treadwell could make an instant impact in a place where we'll need an instant impact.

    I really don't get how he doesn't see a huge opportunity at Michigan. Hopefully he realizes that and ends up here.

    I don't disagree on Treadwell's talent. I just disagree on offensive v. defensive players. Look at USC this year. No one has a better WR duo than they do yet they have three losses and are likely on their way to four or five because their defense sucks. You can similarly look at Michigan under RR versus under Hoke. In 2010, we had one of the best offenses in the country but lost six games because of our atrocious defense. Move ahead to 2011 and 2012 and we are winning far more games with a less productive offense. Why? We had a top 20 defense last year and have a top 10 defense this year. Picking up Treadwell would be great, but having an All American WR is a luxury. Having a great OL and a top 10 defense will win you far more games than having an All American WR. So, to answer the OP's question, if you can only pick one player ... IMO you have to go with one of the defensive players people in this thread have mentioned. I want McDowell, but Hand and Peppers are great choices also. I would take any of them ahead of Treadwell or Green.

    Yeah, I was just talking 2013. Don't disagree with you.

    In 2014, Hand or Blanding. I think either are instant impact, difference maker level prospects/players. Blanding is pretty special.

    Thanks Gerry! IMO, the most important recruit left for Michigan in the 2013 class is Derrick Green. As Michigan moves more toward a downhill running game next season, its crucial that they get a RB like Green that is a perfect fit for that offense. Green really reminds me a lot of former Auburn RB Ronnie Brown, who now plays for the Chargers. Al Borges coached Brown at Auburn and had tons of success with him. Similar to Ronnie Brown, Green is an one-cut-and-go RB that will pick up tough yards and is also a very good receiver out of the backfield, as Borges will run plenty of screens and passes to the RB in his pro-style offense.
