One final look at the 2012 class

I don't know about that. I think i have to agree with m&b21 here. Strobel reminds me of Roh so much off their high school tapes but Strobel appears to have better explosion and closing speed on ball carriers.

Jesus......ojemudia will play on third downs if he is our best pass rusher. Bolden will not back up Morgan, he is a mike. They are grooming him for the position and will spell demens all year.
Wormley is a sde...I like him better for sde over worrmley but whoever is more consistent this year will back up roh.
The coaches have clearly shown what they expect from wde. Strobel is a different player, he will not play wde.

Biggs should make the two deep and if ojemudia proves to be unready this year I def see Ryan rushing the qb

Thanks for the opinion but i still disagree that Strobel can't/won't play WDE.

I heard they would love to redshirt Bolden but also feel the need to get him some pt so he is ready to take over MLB next year. I wouldn't at all be suprised to see him play some at both WLB and Mike this year.

Heitzman will back up Roh, he's had an awesome offseason.

Also, the coaches started Roh at WDE last year, so it's not that unreasonable to assume that Strobel could see PT.

I completely agree about Biggs though, he could easily beat out Brandin Hawthorne for the backup WILL spot if he comes in as good as he's been projected. His size (6'1 225) isn't as much of a worry as we had thought (Morgan is 6'1 230)

Not in my opinion. I would think Ross would be at WILL over Bolden.

Bolden is being groomed for MIKE and it's a huge debate what should be done with him - RS so that he can be our MIKE for 4 years, or give him some PT and experience but burn the RS.

I don't see why they wouldn't RS Bolden. Morgan, Demens, and Ryan are all good players, no need to press the issue of getting freshman playing time just for the sake of it and ruin a RS.

Bolden will play middle....the kid is smart and may move around a bit but the are grooming him to ne the full time starter next year. The coaches have the luxery of learning the position without dropping off in talent. In fact he is an upgrade in the pass. So don't be alarmed to see him splitting reps down the middle this fall with demens.

And Henry will be our best backup 3 tech. Kid looked great I heard.

And enough with people who don't know football throwing around how much a kid weighs. The positions are not dictated by weight.

I think James Ross is going to be an absolute beast. He doesn't look 225 but he definetly plays like he is that big. I just can't see or am hoping that many freshman are not needed this year.

Doesn't mean they both can't rotate in at WILL. One will most likely RS though.

That would be a huge mistake. We can redshirt both 13' guys at linebacker.

Their is nothing like game experience though. Bolden will learn much more from getting a bit of playing time this year than he can if he just watched film and studies Demens from the sideline. He will be much more prepared to take over the starting spot next year if he sees some action this year.

Positions are mostly dictated by weight, especially on the DL. The SDE is meant to be big enough to take on two blockers if needed and to set the edge, the NT is meant to take up two blockers and stuff the holes, the 3-tech DT is meant to stop the run/push the pocket, and the WDE is meant to be big enough to take on blockers and pass rush.

  • Ross is made for will. He has the speed, game recognition and size to play will now. WHY are you assuming and throwing out there things like oh bolden will play.

We are telling you why ...you need to give some facts as to what you are saying.

    Bolden is future at mike
    Biggs future at will

How would it be a huge mistake? Morgan and Ryan return next year, plus Morgan can shift to MLB if needed and have Ross/Bolden take over at WLB.

  • Just to be clear I'm very high on Strobel's game and like Todd feel he could end up being one of the better players in the class. Like many of you I initially felt based on his highlight film he could be a terror off the edge. But after talking with an Ohio HS coach who's seen him play live multiple times he seemed convinced that wasn't Strobel's game and he was a run stuffing SDE all the way. Since I'm no expert I tend to acquiesce to those that are until proven otherwise.

There's no need to throw things like this out there - we're all Michigan fans having an intelligent debate. No need to act like you're better than everyone else.

Morgan would not be a very good MIKE. Bolden is without a doubt the MIKE of our future.

lol yeah the coaches have shown no willingness to move guys around to get the best 11 players on the field. Not to mention they have shown that they love guys who are versatile and can possibly play more than 1 position.

Why wouldn't Morgan make a good MLB? He played it all through HS and will be one of the most experienced defensive players next year. Could be the QB of the defense.

  • I think the one thing we can all agree upon is that we should have some very good depth and position battles at the LB position for the foreseeable future.

Im sorry if I come off being a jerk. I'm certainly not trying to be.

Morgan is not as talented as biggs. Kid played well and deserves to start depending on fall practices. We can't guarantee anything by how good we think a kid is coming in but the coaches will want to put the best players out there. Biggs should be the better linebacker behind Morgan.

Like I said about bolden. He is better in coverage now then demens. Very smart kid that came in ready to go. He is a feshman and will make some mistakes but that is the qb position for the d(kovacs has been). The coaches know he is our starter next year. He needs to learn on the field
