Ok, I got REAL bored...

I would also like to finish out this string of posts by pointing out that, while this exercise is fun, it is a lot more fun to look at the last two OSU recruiting classes and fit them into some sort of reasonable depth chart. Their front five on offense and front seven on defense will both be holier than swiss cheese if Urban doesn't pull a rabit out of his hat.

Outside of their scary DE talent you're right. Urban has some patchwork to do.

That won't be fixed this year. The rivalry is looking good for the future on the Michigan side of things.

Not saying you are wrong, and someone may prove me wrong, but I think technique is as much a barrier to transitioning between those spots as size. CHarlton would be switching from a 7-tech where he is alway rushing at the edge, to the 5-tech where he would be picking up the tackle and a lot of TE and FB.

I think, unless he gains upwards of 50lbs worth of good muscle, his speed and technique will keep him locked into that weakside spot. Plus, with Strobel, Godin, Wormley, and Poggi, SDE will be ably manned for the forseeable future.

definetly, Charlton will be a beast rushing the passer with his combination of speed and athletisicm, thats definetly where his highest potential is imo

Yeah, I think that he is being recruited for the 3 tech. Basically, what I'm reading is that he is a tweener sort of like Van Bergen (that's the comparison made on mgoblog and it seems pretty accurate). It all depends on how he fills out and develops, I suppose.

The coaches seem to like those versatile kids on the line that are interchangable, like vanbergen and heninger last year being switched back and forth from 3 & 5 tech

Absolutely. The pro-style, zone-blitzing style of Mattison is almost the defensive equivalent of RichRod's spread. Outside of the nose, its all about catching the offense off guard and giving great athletes favorable matchups.

Hell, even the nose is fair game. When he ran that Okie package last year, it was Desmond Morgan with the inside shade on the guard.

I can't wait to see that swarming, nasty style of defense with hand-picked players who have practiced it for two-three years before getting the start.

yea it was really fun last year watching the defense confuse olines, often bringing 7-8 guys to the line and you never knew what 4 or 5 would attack, its gona be so good watching a nasty defense like the Michigan of old, gettin so pumped for it!
