Ohio's defense ... lol

  • UMSkeletor said...

To be fair Scheelhaase left the game fairly early on and they had their backup in for most of the game. But the point still stands that we probably would have allowed 28 points or so with our G-Rob 2009/2010 defense.

Scheelhaase was 2/6 for 4 yards. I don't think it would've made much of a difference.

  • I'd just like to say this for the record.

Today, OSU's leading tackler was FB Zach Boren, who was moved over to play MLB. Both wifebeater Storm Klein and formerly touted prospect Curtis Grant were so bad that OSU would rather play a 2-way guy than put either of them on the field. Etienne Sabino just broke his fibula, so the only real LB left to start is Ryan Shazier.

And despite all of this, the two best LBs in the state of Ohio remain committed to Michigan. Do you think Meyer's regretting waiting to offer McCray now? I certainly do...

  • 7-0 here's a pat on the back because that's about all you're playing for. Congrats on meaningless wins against nobodies. Meanwhile we will be playing in a BCS while the world watches, including your team, sitting at home on the couch.

28 points? Would have been at least 35.

  • OSU's future talent on defense is really good. Their talent today? Outside of Hankins and Simon, there are no sure NFL players there. Shazier probably. Secondary...meh.

On top of that, with their LBs fallling left and right, that leaves them wanting.

The real question is: have the Buckeyes played a really good offensive team? Yes, I know Nebraska and Indiana are ranked in the top 30...but again, which stellar defenses have either played, including OSU?

It really isn't OSU's fault though..their schedule sucks, Big 10 sucks. Braxton is the real deal, their WR are making enough plays. But this is not a championship caliber defense.

In comparison to the competition in the BIG, OSU has top 3 Defensive talent. As UM fans, we know better than most how good coaching can effect a D. Overnight, Mattison turned our sieve of a defense into a top 20 unit. How many sure fire NFL players are starting on our D? Not a whole lot. Ohio's problem is a combination of coaching and philosophy. Dante Booker, are you watching?

I hope they do continue to use the lack of talent excuse. Just give recruiting time! Stay the course, support the coaches. Sound familiar to anyone?

most reasonable post on here for sure, but regardless of all that ohio state giving up 30 points will make OSU fans upset let alone this. i will also add that if bradley roby decides to go pro, which we hope he doesnt, many expect him to be a first rounder

    This.

And I think Fickell is not cut out for the job. It's hard to say because I'm on the outside looking in, but he seems like too nice of a guy. They need a tough SOB in there to make those boys play better or get off the field.

and he seems to be a tressel disciple in that he is loyal to his older guys to a fault even if they arent as talented as younger guys. but regardless of that it seems like a change needs to be made, and his seems like the most likely target

  • I'll give you guys a little insight into our line backer situation. The main story is injuries.

    Ryan Shazier – Sophomore – Playing/dinged
Curtis Grant – Sophomore – game hasn’t slowed down yet
David Perkins – Freshman - enrolled in the fall
Luke Roberts – Freshman – enrolled in the fall
Jamal Marcus – Freshman – enrolled in the fall

This is what we are working with. Curtis Grant for some reason is not playing (don’t know why). Our other 3 options are 3 freshmen that enrolled this fall and haven’t seen ANY snaps at linebacker because those are given to the people that earned roster spots in Spring and were going to be playing in the fall. It is no surprise to me why they went to Boren. Because of injuries, he is the best option at this point in the year. We should get Sabino back in time for the last two games which will stiffen up that defense a little. Not sure how bad the other injuries are.

    Storm Klein - Injured
Etienne Sabino - Senior - Injured
Camren Williams – Freshman - Injured
Josh Perry – Freshman – Injured
Connor Crowell - Freshman - injured

We are both atheists. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours

None that I know of. Perkins, Roberts, and marcus are doing pretty good on special teams. The ones that are injured have already gotten playing time. Crowell red shirted last year and would be a pretty good line backer if he wasn't injured now.
