Offense 2013

  • We've discussed what our OL will look like plenty, but I don't think I've seen us talk about the offense as a whole. Who'll see the field?

    QB: Gardner
    RB: Green/Toussaint split carries
    FB: Kerridge
    WR1: Gallon
    WR2: Darboh
    SWR: Dileo
    TE: Funch
    TE: Butt
    3DRB: Norfleet
    LT: Lewan
    LG: Kalis
    OC: Miller
    RG: Braden
    RT: Schofield

  • Errr...yeah, I've got nothing to add to the first post. Looks about right to me.

  • I think Drake Johnson will see some time this year the coaches love him

  • I agree with most of your choices.

    QB: Gardner
    RB: Green/Toussaint
    FB: Kerridge/Houma/Shallman
    WR1: Gallon
    WR2: Darboh
    SWR: Dileo
    TE: Funchess
    TE: Williams
    3DRB: Hayes
    LT: Lewan
    LG: Kalis
    OC: Miller
    RG: Bryant
    RT: Schofield

I can see Shallman getting on the field early in certain packages. I also am hoping Bryant can come back and stay healthy because he is a great run blocker from what I hear.

Thats exactly what I would have put Rabid. Obviously depending on the situation we will see different looks. Williams at TE will get a lot of snaps. I think Kerridge starts at FB but I see Houma pushing him and getting some looks. I think the Oline is set in stone everywhere but RG with Braden, Bars, Bryant, and Bosch battling for the start. I really hope Miller turns into a strong C for us. With another winter to add weight and strength I think he will.

I think the break out player on offense is Darboh, I think he makes 25+ catches this year.

I also hope we see a lot of Norfleet in all kinds of looks. Personally I don't know why we wouldn't but Im not the OC.

  • Neat. I guess we haven't really discussed it because we were all in agreement on what it would look like from the get go.

  • I think Chesson sees the field a little, but I don't know if I'd move him over Darboh. I think we'll play Funchess and Williams most, especially on run plays, but Butt will play. Not sure about RB.

I think it's just a function of having a relatively clear hierarchy among the positions where we had starters leave last year.

There are very few position battles on offense (as opposed to defense, where practically everyone but Countess and Ryan will be battling for a starting spot, to an extent) so we're looking at a relatively seamless transition. I'd be willing to bet there'll be at least one surprise (for example: either Drake Johnson or Jehu Chesson pushes for playing time, or AJ Williams sees a ton of time at TE to assert the running attack) but I don't think it'll be a surprise along the lines of Mealer getting shifted to C a week before the season starts.

I think center is exactly where we would see a suprise again. I would not be shocked to see someone other than Miller starting at center. I also would not be suprised to see Schofield move back inside.

  • I think Chesson could make an impact as well. A redshirt doesn't necessarily translate into being behind other people at his position. He has a unique skillset compared to any other receiver on the roster, so I am imagining he'll at least get the opportunity to make plays.

    Steve Lorenz

  • RB is going to be a complete toss up.

Rawls, Hayes, Toussaint (If healthy), Johnson, Green, Smith will all have the opportunity to earn carries

  • What game was it where Fitz got hurt last year? Any chance he gets a medical RS?

Fitz is already running. He will be ready, and I think in a better place mentally than he came in last year.

He better start putting his foot in the ground and stop dancing in the backfield then.

Bars might push Miller at center

  • And the worse part about the injury was I was so happy we finally ran a flipping speed option instead of just the read, it worked for 20 yards and then Fitz took a weird hit.

Ofcourse the next week against a bad edge defense Al didn't call it again but that's beside the point.
