OT- What did everyone want to do as a kid when they grew up?

  • TAMUWolverine said...

One of my friend's just did this. His wife is a teacher so they struggled for a while but he says it's really paid off for him and he doesn't regret it at all. Good luck man. thumbsup

I will be enrolling this fall so we are trying to cut everything we can now to help. On top of that, my oldest daughter is starting college and we will be trying to help her as much as possible. I feel bad that most of what we planned to help her with is now going to get me through the academy.

My coach has a similar philosophy and a lot of my teammates want me to pitch this year because I have a nasty knuckleball, but I've literally never pitched once in my life. I'm pretty sure I'm going to suck and hate it.

We graduated our two best pitchers and the cupboard was kinda empty, so I'm a pitcher now, lol. We were being gunned during bullpens and I was the second hardest thrower behind a guy going to MSU on scholarship. Not too shabby.

Damn. lol How much more time do you have left?

    a year and a half, so....yay!

I might be exaggerating a little, I think I have a pretty good handle on what i'd like to do short-term...it's really only when you get me talking about "what's your 10 year plan" that I start going in a trillion directions.

  • Always wanted to work in the FBI / CIA, mainly because of movies making it look cool. Parents wanted me to do Chemical Engineering because it was similar to what my dad did and summer jobs working at the company he was at interested me (hazardous waste processing stuff). I knew computers were the right profession for me though by middle school when I was downloading pirated games over a modem and was fascinated by it all. Did Computer Engineering at Michigan and have been working in the field since..

Well I messed up my arm pitching when I was 13ish, but I'm fine pitching now (senior year). Does that count?

  • Always wanted to be a professional hockey player for the Red Wings. I still play two or three times a week but now I'm in business school and will hopefully work in the front office for the Wings eventually.

Dream job now is AD at Michigan, though.

Possibly. I matured early and had a dick of a coach who used me way too often and didn't monitor what I was throwing. Tore two muscles in my rotator cuff when I was 13 and never threw above 75 again. Sucks, but c'est la vie. Were your coaches careful with you?

In terms of pitch count, not really. I once threw 190 pitches in a single day (in a semi final and championship game in the 8th grade). However, I didn't start throwing offspeed pitches until I entered high school which I think helped a lot. Even in high school at least 80% of my pitches were either 4/2 seam fastballs or changeups, and I threw a slider instead of a curve. I was also 6'4, 210 by the time I was a junior which might have helped. lol My senior year I ended up throwing 77 innings.

Ah. Yeah, my coach had me throwing curves in middle school, and god bless my parents, but they didn't know anything about how best to develop a young pitcher, so they deferred to the coach.

Funny that you asked, Police officer.

For 16 years I was the sole financial supporter for my family of what is now 7 people (wife and I with 5 children). My wife has been working for the last year and with her financial security we decided last week that it is time for me to make a career change and enroll in the police academy.

No wages from me for 20+ weeks and taking a big pay cut once I find work. Finally doing what I want to do instead of what I have to do though.

    Best of luck D.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

  • I never decided what I wanted to be when I was young. When I actually decided, I wanted to be an electrical engineer (around 13, I know ... boring). I ended up in insurance as an underwriter and then got moved to IT/Operations for a company that writes over 150 million in premium reporting directly to our president and can't complain.

Wanted to pitch in the bigs until I blew out my arm in 9th grade, and then I went with the backup plan of being a lawyer.

Fortunately, my firm takes great pride in its softball team, so I can still combine my dreams!

Softball is an awesome groovy sport. You play limited or unlimited arch?

As for the topic I always wanted to be an NFL scout. .
