OT- What did everyone want to do as a kid when they grew up?

  • Rabid said...

Going to MTSU and majoring in journalism.

Awesome! Hopefully they don't steal your Michigan fandom.

If you want to be an ESPN writer you're definitely on the right track, just make sure you surround yourself with the right people.

Haha that's brutal. With the way my arm was trending, had I decided to pitch in college I would've needed surgery as well. Miss it more than anything though, pitching is one of/if not the greatest positions in all of sports. I wish everyone could experience what it's like at a highly competitive level.

Yeah, it happened the summer before my senior year, while I was traveling for our select leagues. cry We won state my senior year and a national title but I couldn't play. lol

I absolutely hated pitching! Hated it with a passion.

  • Wanted to pitch in the bigs until I blew out my arm in 9th grade, and then I went with the backup plan of being a lawyer.

Fortunately, my firm takes great pride in its softball team, so I can still combine my dreams!

  • I wanted to be an announcer on ESPN and go to Syracuse like Mike Tirico, but in 9th grade I developed a hatred for writing and now aspire to work in the front office of a MLB team under some capacity.

  • I had a few dreams growing up and believe it or not, I attained each one of them
    Play football - check
Work in radio - check (WIQB in Ann Arbor about 20 years ago)
Work for a pro team - check (worked for the Tigers and the Pistons)

The working part wasn't all that it was cracked up to be so I left both jobs and am now just a working stiff trying to support a family. Hooray.

MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

My coaches' philosophy: "If you have an arm and can throw, you can pitch"

    So not true.

My coach has a similar philosophy and a lot of my teammates want me to pitch this year because I have a nasty knuckleball, but I've literally never pitched once in my life. I'm pretty sure I'm going to suck and hate it.

  • Funny that you asked, Police officer.

For 16 years I was the sole financial supporter for my family of what is now 7 people (wife and I with 5 children). My wife has been working for the last year and with her financial security we decided last week that it is time for me to make a career change and enroll in the police academy.

No wages from me for 20+ weeks and taking a big pay cut once I find work. Finally doing what I want to do instead of what I have to do though.

I'm in law school. I have about 10 different ideas about what sort of law I want to practice though lol, so my career indecisiveness hasn't gone away at all

One of my friend's just did this. His wife is a teacher so they struggled for a while but he says it's really paid off for him and he doesn't regret it at all. Good luck man. thumbsup

Yeah, this works up until about middle school. After that, you really need to have a pitcher's mentality.

Out of curiosity, where are you in school/where do you want to practice? If I've got any connections in the area, I'd be glad to tap them for you.

That's awesome. Another side dream of mine would have been to work in some capacity for the Michigan football team or the Lions.

That'd be great, thanks. I'm 2L, looking primarily to either go back home to the Bay Area or stay in NYC. Also kind of thinking about going back to DC...but that's pretty solidly a tier below at this point.
