OT: Week 1 NFL thoughts

  • Lots of great storylines already, and there are still two more games to come tonight. What stood out to you the most?

Great games all around. Horrible officiating.

    1. Seahawks/Cardinals game were the injury mandatory charged timeout was not taken away from Seattle.

    2. Two badly missed illegal block on the back that should had been called against Green Bay on the punt return td scored by Randall Cobb. I thought Jim Harbaugh was going to drop kick the officials.

On the positive side, was glad to see Peyton Manning back on the field after 3-4 neck surgeries. Browns again choking against the Eagles. Long year for Trent Richardson if Brandon W. plays the way he did. What else can be said , RG3 !

David Baas. Super Bowl Champion. Stevie Brown. Interception machine.

    Brady 6

  • Refs were just terrible

  • Pats look utterly unstoppable, going 16-0 again seems like a real possibility given how weak the schedule is.

Agreed, the replacement officials are struggling mightily. I am still confused about the Green Bay punt return because the officials even reviewed the play so there is no excuse to of not seen the block in the back?? As a Bronco fan, I was also excited about Peyton Manning looking back to form. Thought he was very sharp.

Defense couldn't get off the field though.

  • Manning looked surgical running that no huddle last night. Denver is going to have a great season.

  • Couple thoughts from the Lions game. The defensive tackles looked awesome. Suh, Fairley and Williams all had sacks i believe. Sammie Hill was very good in run defense. If they can keep getting that good of play out of them the Lion D should be much improved from last year. Stafford just needs to stop throwing picks but he looked very good on the last 2 drives when they needed him the most.

  • The Colts have a long ways to go in terms of competing with the top teams. The wide receivers were lackluster and struggled to get open, the run game wasn't very good, and the defense was trash. Andrew Luck looked good, but he needs weapons.

He threw 3 picks. Not that good. The only rookie QB that looked good week 1 was RG3

He threw picks because he receivers weren't getting open and there was no run game to turn to. He's throws had great zip on them and were accurate for the most part.

    Touché I guess.

  • RGIII looked like the real deal...at least a reason to watch for Redskins fans.

This. Belichick put a focus on defense this offseason and got really young in doing it. They were never terrible against the run but holding CJ2K to 4 yards on 11 carries is very impressive. The true test will come in a couple weeks against the Ravens when they play a QB who isn't Locker or Skelton. But the defense doesn't have to be top 5 they just need to do enough and get off the field.

As for the offense, good luck lol McDaniels with all these weapons it's gonna be another fun season.

Have you seen the Jet defense? If Laron Landry and Yeremiah Bell stay healthy (I know .. B1G if) .. that defense is downright scary again. If the offense just stays respectable, and can sustain drives .. the Jets (who woulda thunk it) can be a major problem this year.

They'll give the Pats all they can handle this year.
