OT: Stephen A Smith

  • Like him? Or can't stand him?

I personally think this guy has the loudest mouth of any sports analyst out there. He may even bring up some good points, but his delivery makes want to throw a bottle of Jack at the TV. Of course, his loud mouth is probably what got him the job in the first place...

  • Can't stand him. I'm glad Cuban ripped into him and Skip on First Take

Don't get me wrong, I really don't care for Skip...but I look at Skip the same as Colin Cowherd, they just want to go against what ever everyone else thinks for ratings. But Stephen A is downright annoying. Just imagine trying to hold a conversation with that guy over a cocktail? I think its impossible for him to keep that loud trap at a normal level for more than 20 seconds.

Steven A is a obnoxious loud mouth - but he is funny. Bayless is a huge douchbag...If I worked at espn, I wouldn't have lasted long- second priority would be to backhand him.. First priority would to plow Jenny Brown!!!!!

  • Not a big fan of Steven A or Skip. I could be wrong, but Steven A is the first media type I can remember that introduced us to the "I'm going to shout as loud as I can so you'll think I'm important" approach. Dicky V has always gotten carried away, but that was genuine emotion. Can't think of anyone else that did that before Steven A. And it honestly makes me uncomfortable every time I hear him speak. And it's awful watching him and Skip debate each other, because they constantly interrupt each other and talk over each other.

Steven A just screams for no reason, and unfortunately, others have adopted the same approach. For example, I used to think Bob Ryan was pretty good, but in recent years, he's adopted that same loudmouth approach, so any time I see him on TV, I immediately change the channel.

  • How am I the only one to show support for Stephen A? He doesn't yell nearly as much as people claim he does, and when he does, it is (most of the time) warranted and hilarious. When you expect him to explode, and see it coming, there is a higher sense of satisfaction and entertainment when he lets loose.

Also, not that it matters nearly as much as his delivery, but he provides excellent insight and information regarding the players he covers.

  • OH so now all male black sportscasters/analysts are loudmouths? Talk about stereotyping. RACIST!

...no, I generally don't like him. Cannot STAND Skip Bayless; will never forget his horribly tangential rant on why Craig Biggio was not worthy of being inducted into the HoF (whether or not one agrees isn't my issue).

It's really Steven's approach that I'm not particularly fond of. It ALWAYS distracts me from his main point(s).

Interesting that you created this thread; I always wanted to know why people didn't care for Chris Berman. I LOVE listening to him (well...I did).

Back to Steven...would rather listen to Jamaal Mashburn any day. And while we're at it, anyone else think Chris Webber is coming along rather nicely as a basketball analyst?

I hope you're joking with the "racist" comment. Can't tell if you are serious or not.

Where in the world did I say "all male black sportscasters/analysts are loudmouths"?

The entire first line is sarcasm; I figured the titanic straw man that I erected was a dead giveaway.

I like Webber as well. I like how he's calm and analytical. I'd take him over any of ESPN's on-air people, and he's one of the better analysts on TNT as well. He passes along his knowledge without trying to make it all about himself. That's exactly what I'm looking for in a broadcaster. He doesn't look 100% comfortable yet, but he's just getting started. I expect him to continue improving.

he tore up skip. he couldn't answer alot of cubans questions. couldnt even answer "whats a zone". skips a clown and every time i watch i tell my self that there is no way skip is telling the truth. i think espn tells him to go against what everyone else says for ratings. the guy talks about tebow 10 times a day when tebow is not in any of the questions obviously for more views. says tebow is a winner and would be better than sanchez at qb. says wade is batman and he wins all the games even when lebron has a triple double and wade has 10 points he will say those where the most important 10 points in the game and without those they will lose. never gives lebron credit. the guys a clown and i know he cant be that stupid. obviously they need debates for the show to work so espn makes skip the bad guy and go against whatever stephen a smith says. theres not one person in the world that puts tebow at the level that skip does. i hope everyone stops watching that show so it gets cancelled i cant listen to skip talk sports anymore explode. skip says that players listen to him and they do certain things because of what he said fingergun.

  • I think people just need to realize they are entertainers who also happen to talk about sports. The show is entertaining in comparison to other sports shows imo.

I really didn't see how Cuban showed either of them up. If he knew as much about basketball as he would have everyone believe, then why did he let Chandler walk away? His presence kept bigger players from pushing Dirk around. I thought not bringing him back was a pretty dumb move. Now Dirk has no muscle backup and will spend the rest of his career getting pushed around and run out of the playoffs.

Not to mention he tried to act like it was some great coaching strategy that kept Lebron out of the paint in last years finals lol. Riiiiight....

Came across as arrogant and full of himself.
