OT: Sparty Noooooo!!!!

  • I must admit I'm a bit embarrassed at the fact that MSU was part of the 5-ring Jabari Parker circus. At least Tom Izzo had the decency to skip the news conference and instead visit the sick father of a former player.

The top coaches like Izzo and Coach K know that, as distasteful as it is, a program probably needs at least 'one-and-done' player to win a NC. But the news conference, the live TV coverage, the presentation of the requisite finalist caps / t shirts / logos, etc should embarrass everyone involved. Cancel classes and gather all of the school students in the gym to hear the big annoucement of where a 17 year old kid is going to go to college for one semester? Then compound the travesty by claiming that the purpose of the show is to demonstrate how important academics are? Really?

That was a big win for the conference. MSU definitely got a major break on that muffed punt, but their offense got things going just enough down the stretch to pull it off.

Two average teams .... Sparty and TCU. However, anytime B10 plays outside of the conference I want them to win. Good job Sparty.

The thing I found funniest was watching the Twitter timeline where one tweet was talking about how humble the kid was, then the next tweet was how Dan Wetzel was sitting next to Parker's "official Wikipedia editor." lol

You know I always think it's funny when journalists like Dan Wetzel etc. rip college football for its supposed corruption but somehow college hoops gets a pass. Yet college basketball is so corrupt, in relative terms college football is a couple kids getting up to mischief and college hoops is the mob. If guys like Calipari were football coaches, they'd be hauled in front of congress on a regular basis.

Yes, but I was wrong that it actually was an ESPN guy who tweeted about it, not Dan Wetzel.

The No. 1 college basketball recruit has his own personal Wikipedian, and it sure does show.

Wow, definitely not humble in the slightest.

  • What makes it even better is that Andrew Wiggins is head and shoulders better than Parker.

But Wiggins' Wikipedia page is only 2 paragraphs... so Parker has that going for him, which is nice.... I guess.

Notre Dame fans remind me of the #scUM fans back in September, pre-Alabama annihilation. #IgnoranceIsBliss

Trolling two fanbases of teams you lost to during the season instead of enjoying your bowl win and the holiday season?

'14 could be an all time great recruiting class for Duke.

No question Coach K coaching the Olympic team is huge.

Kentucky may have the best recruiting class of all time next year... believe they have 4 Top 10 players, and are in on a few more undecided within the top 10. So they could end up w/ 5 players in the Top 10 & Kentucky's Mr. Basketball to appease the locals.

  • I like Appling's game. I like Harris' game.

Other than that, there's not alot to fear up there. Nix has shown tremendous improvement in his time there, but he's not a game changer. Valentine looks like he'll be a solid player there. Payne is nothing but an athlete. He basically is msu's version of Brent Petway. A phenomenal athlete who can jump and dunk and rebound decently, but has no discernible offensive skill. Dawson is extremely athletic as well, but no offensive game whatsoever and seems to get lost on D.

Gauna and Byrd provide nothing. Trice is a serviceable backup.

  • It's always a conspiracy. They actually haven't lost a B1G basketball game in years. If the refs call the games evenly, they win all of them.

    roflmao

In football, the B1G and it's officials want to make sure the traditional powers (Michigan, osu) win their games. In basketball, they want to make sure msu, which admittedly has been the face of the B1G for the last several years, lose their games. Don't follow the logic....

Or perhaps it's just that the B1G wants msu to lose as much as possible regardless of sport

  • It is ALL on the refs

Yes - we had some bad plays, and some bad d at times - but good lord. 3 loose ball out of bounds plays were called the wrong way. 2n
