  • There were many who questioned whether or not she existed back when the story was big a few months ago. Reading some Notre Dame forums from the time shows that there were people that questioned her story. I would laugh if this was just some tiny little white lie that ignited into a national breaking news story.

    Kelly knew about this before their BCS game because Notre Dame found out on Dec 26th per the reports coming out. Can't wait for this to be their excuse for the shellacking against Bama. It's likely why Kelly debated the NFL for those few days .... knew this mess would be coming out soon.

    I'll never understand the human mind, there were women who were throwing themselves at Ted Bundy and Joran van der Sloot AFTER they were found guilty of raping and murdering women.

    This guy ran an internet hoax and will have an NFL check, he'll have a 10 on his arm no doubt but I guarantee she'll be as loco as he is.

    Here's a different angle I haven't seen anyone mention. If the Notre Dame statement is accurate and Te'o was conned, don't you think he would've consulted with them prior to his interviews that he had never met the girl? And if so, was it their PR team saying "just leave that out of the interview" so it would come off better?

    "Supposedly" Te'o met this girl in 2009, were "Best Friends" until 2011 when they became a "Couple"... So this whole time, 4 year college career Manti never dated a girl on campus.

    In the article, Manti's "friend" Touiasosopo (sp?) is discovered as the owner of the twitter account that all think is Lennay....

    These two gentleman know each other, tweet each other, text each other, etc as "Bro's" and I believe also tweet, text and email each other as "lovers" using Lennay's accounts.

    When Manti is about to finish his college career the girl suddenly "dies", so no more excuses needed as to why no girlfriend around campus, no questions about why none of his team has met his girlfriend etc...

    So, by my calculations, making up this entire story about a girl was much easier for Manti than admitting he was in fact in a relationship with Mr. Touiasosopo....

  • If this all shakes out the way most assume it will (Te'o making up the story) this is absolutely despicable. Not only did he lie about a topic that is literally killing thousands of people each year, but he also used it to hype up his own legacy. He probably would have been briefly considered for some of the major awards, but does anybody see him finishing 2nd in the Heisman voting without the emotional storyline? I don't think so. Honey Badger was probably just as good last season and he wasn't in serious contention.

    Along with this, how does Notre Dame hear about this story on December 26th and wait until January 16th (when a story is broken on a website) to report this to the media? It would be one thing if they were simply investigating the topic, but it appears like they already found what they needed and had explanations from Te'o and the school. If it was just a hoax, what is there to hide? To me there is little doubt that Te'o and even the Notre Dame athletic department was involved in this cover up. The reasons are likely complex, but the one thing that is for sure is that Te'o's legacy is now wrecked. If there is a positive, at least it's that Te'o is going to lose out on a lot of fame and fortune in the process.

    Just a pathetic situation.

    I wouldn't be surprised if ND knew about this way before December 26. About 90% of the Rudy story is made up (former players, including Joe Montana, have mocked it publicly). Even if you believe ND didn't find out until the 26th, they let the story be repeated over and over after that until it was exposed by deadspin. They even let Te'o go out and continue to talk about it in media interviews. How big of a stretch is it to think they knew the story was bogus much earlier but contnued to push it to help Te'o's chances of winning awards and because it was great PR for the school?

    Well he IS the only real person on the other end of texts, phone calls etc. a friend of Mr T said that Te'o knew this cat was actually "Lennay" and was 80% sure that Manti was behind the false reports to help with PR.
