  • I ski, but all east coast.

Are you going to Colorado specifically? Or are you just planning to go out west and Colorado is an option? I ask because I heard that Utah has 3 awesome mountains all in the same general vicinity.

  • Oh nice!
Well skip lived in park city and sold property on the top of mountains for talisker which was owned by the canyons. So we have skied a lot of Utah.

Then last year we went to Jackson Hole, which was flat out crazy. Although I should have done something to get in shape for that. You can't just show up and ski that mountain.

So this year we decided Colorado since I haven't been there.

I have a lot of questions about east coast aiki.g. where have you been? Any places around Nashville?

I mostly just ski mountains in Vermont like Jay Peak, Smuggler's Notch, and occasionally take a trip to Whiteface in New York.

If you ever come out east, I'd be more than happy to give you a tour of Smugs or Jay Peak, both have great back country skiing and for the most part are classic ski resorts.

Jackson Hole is awesome. Not much of a skier here, but I love the hiking out that way.

  • Jay peak actually has some vertical. We have been talking about heading out there for years now but we never make it.

I may be up for a late season trip. I think its about an 8 hour drive for me

Make it happen, you won't regret it. Let me know if you guys do go though, I'll show you guys around.

My only issue with Jay Peak is it has become really corporate of late and it has in turn downgraded the quality of skiing.

If you do make a trip to Vermont, I really suggest Smuggler's Notch, they have every type of skiing and it's old school.

I have yet to ski them because they are so expensive lol

If you want to go to Stowe, we could go to Smuggs then hike over and get a few free runs in, my brother has done it a few times, but you usually get kicked out after a run or two.

All of those vermont resorts are around 2 hours from me, so I usually just leave early in the morning and get there around 9ish and ski for the rest of the day.

I ski on a set of Rossignol S4s, they are twin tips, but are pretty much all mountain skis. I'm also switching over to some full tilt boots this year.

  • I thought you lived in Tennessee?

    Everyone loves the s4

My younger brother just got the pepe fujas.

I want to talk sky(skip) into a march trip after I get my taxes. In fact I can say ill Def go. If smugglers is the place then let's do it

    signature image signature image

    kylebennett7127

  • And I thought the s4 was a pretty wide ski. See I've been sling for 250 years. So I was use to the tiny hour glass shape.

No, I live in New York.

I love my S4s, I've had them for a couple years now and they still ski like they are brand new. I've never had base repair or anything, even after skiing in some questionable conditions early in the season and really late in the season.

Smuggler's would be perfect and just about everyone I know loves it. I know it pretty well and I could easily show you some of the back country stuff most people don't know about going for their first time.

If you want to do Jay Peak though, I'm down with that too.

  • Smugglers has always been rated really high.

I googled distances and tremblant is somehow closer. It's the top east coast resort for pretty much, ever.
But yeah, around Jan maybe ill.start planning something

  • Killington was horrible when I went one year in January. Ice in the morning and slush in the afternoon. I'm sure it was just bad conditions though.

My 6 years in Utah have me biased though. Amazing skiing compared to Vail and at least 50% the cost. Forget Park City, they jack the prices up for the celebs. Brighton was awesome for locals and Snowbird has incredible runs from 12k feet. I'm sad to see winter hit here in Michigan and know my best skiing for this season will be a trash heap...

I've never made it up to Tremblant, just out of the way for me when I can ski other high quality resorts without having the border hassle.

I've heard Killington gets over-skiied very easily and it's pretty overrated. Smuggs has old lifts to prevent over-skiing and the conditions are usually pretty good.

I here you. We took a trip out to sundance once and it wasn't too bad.

Where are you going to ski in Michigan?

    signature image signature image

    kylebennett7127

  • That's understandable completely.

I just brought it up because it was an hour closer.

    Smuggs looks pretty awsome.

Pine Knob and Brighton are the closest, but they are garbage once you've been on a real mountain. Never been to Boyne, but that's a weekend trip I assume.
