OSU/UM Rivalry - Its now down to home court/field

    In Football you had barely won in a down year because of a interim coach who was clueless. Bottom line we win this year in Ann ArbOr and I don't see you guys winning a football gm against us this Decade.

    Hoke is a fill in the gap guy , you guys need a real coach

    Urban Meyer is the definition of a fill in the gap guy. Which coach do you think will still be at their current school in 3 years?

    Exactly....that's why I'm glad we got him....We had at least as much talent as that team in '06 and they ran circles around us. That's the part I like the most, we will be a faster team. When you look at the huge difference between the SEC and other conferences in the NC game, there has always been a distinct gap in the speed of the teams. We, and the BIG in general (ND too) may have had WR's that could run, but the differences were in the SEC's DL, LB's etc. Their LB's were faster than our RB's and their DL just ran around our OT's. That is where NC's are won, and I'm glad to see Urban addressing that as soon as he came on board. So, we took a beating, but if it makes us better in the long run I'm good with it.

    This is the thing OSU fans forget readily. Meyer was burnt out at Florida. He retired twice. He took time off and came back energized for the job. How long before his tank runs out if it hasn't already?

    It has been stated several times that part of what made Urban lose his desire to coach was coaching in the SEC. No, not the toughness of the schedule, but the disadvantages of a school that wouldn't oversign, or do other ethically "questionable" tactics.. Florida was and still is one of the few in the SEC that won't oversign, meaning they won't sign over the 85 limit then decide who should declare a medical hardship or just be told they no longer are on the team. Imagine if you were in the SEC, would UM be able to compete with the Bama's, LSU's, A&M's and now the Ole Miss' if you still did it the right way? Probably not, nor could any of us. It's easy to reload like Bama if you can take 25-35 every year and cut some others loose that aren't producing, that's the NFL, not supposed to be college.

  • Cracks me up when idiotic commentators use stats from past regimes.

    I could go back and use some John Cooper records against Michigan. Or the late 90s when Michigan was smacking ohio around in basketball.

  • I couldn't imagine that the game in AA next fall is a given for either team. I think for a trend to occur there needs to be three cycles. That hasn't happened in football.

    You won't beat Michigan on a neutral court. You couldn't beat them at Crisler when you guys played your best game all year and they didn't have their starting center. Also, we already beat you this decade in football and Hoke hasn't lost at home yet. But by all means keep telling yourself that Ohio will just waltz into AA and easily win.

    Urban left because he couldn't beat Nick Saban. If Saban doesn't take the Alabama job then Meyer would still be in the SEC.

    That makes no sense. If he wants to play for the national title he will have to play against SEC teams. He may also have some on the regular season schedule. AND, he is still recruiting against those same SEC schools. He didnt leave because it was the SEC.

    That is a fine opinion. While the game is not a given for Michigan this year, things look very promising. Michigan and Ohio looked pretty even last year and the incoming classes look even too. My opinion is that you have to be at least a somewhat better team to be consideres an even or close call game on the road in the Big Ten. There is no reason to believe that Ohio is any better and so, it seems more likely Michigan will win. (Based on what we know right now.)

    If that helps you sleep at night. Honestly, I thought the score was closer than the game. I have no idea how much better OSU will be next year. I can only project that they will be markedly better on both sides of the ball. All I know is that I hope that OSU is going into the Game on 23 game winning streak.

    It's different having to recruit against them for 3 or 4 of your recruits and going against the payoffs for all of your recruits. Being at Florida, almost all of his recruits were from SEC country. At OSU, he goes against the BIG for 50-70% of his recruits and then goes East/West and then dips in the south...He got 2 of our 3 "longshots" on signing day from head to head battles with Bama, Tenn and Florida.

    Not to flame the subject of speed vs power, but haven't we already seen that speed can win that game? In 2006, you had an awesome team, as did OSU. OSU ran a spread attack with 3 and 4 wide outs w/ a mobile QB Troy Smith. You had Henne, Hart and good receivers/OL. That was what I envision our battles becoming in next few years. Good, hard fought, close game between two different styled teams both loaded with talent.

    Texas A&M jumped on Bama early...the power game didn't work to well against a deficit.
    IMO it's OSU and then everyone else...not even close. We will be a top 3 team next year season.....cupcake schedule....Jan 6...Pasadena......tune in

    Hello? OSU put out offers to TONS of recruits that also had SEC offers. He wants the B10 to recruit more like the SEC....but you keep thinking it was the slimey SEC recruiting that drove him out of the game? Seriously? You are not smart if you honestly believe that.

    Sorry, the only way OSU is undefeated next year is if it doesn't have to play a team with less than five losses on the road. That won't happen. OSU squeaked out small-victory wins against Michigan, State, Purdue, Indiana and Wisco, while those programs all went through down years (or just suck).

    I guess is everyone in the B10 is horrible next year, Ohio might be undefeated...but in that case....who cares?

    I really don't see how you can consider Ohio's defensive units as equals. The defense from players to coaches is clearly in UM's favor. As for offense, it will likely be pretty even considering we don't know what UM will look like without planning on Denard. That said, I am a firm believer that your RBs and QB are helped out tremendously by the Oline. Bama's Heisman winners and hopefuls at RB has been based on the line. Even if OSU had better RBs and QB, that is not enough to overcome the advantage UM has in its young line.

    Our DL is almost non existent in the pass rush, and until they prove that they can get to the QB consistently, the DL edge is yours IMO. I like (or dislike. lol) what I saw out of your young DL, they looked like the real deal whenever they were in the game.

    Shazier is a little bit overrated, IYAM. He's still a great player, and he gets a boatload of tackles, but he also makes a boatload of mistakes. I saw him overrun and just miss the ballcarrier plenty of times. After Shazier, who else is your LB corps? You had a fullback playing MLB (and he wasn't bad fwiw, but still..)

    Jake Ryan, Joe Bolden, and Desmond Morgan/James Ross III are all really good LBers.

    No one said that um had bama's line. I just used it as an example of how important it is to the offense. Miller would have done much better with a better line this past year.

    You already said UM will have a better OL. And now you acknowledge that is with lots of young guys versus Ohio's senior starters. That does not bode well for the direction of the Oline under Meyer.

    your assessment is spot on, he overruns too many plays, he will play with more discipline this yr (we hope), our others are young, josh perry looked real good but former 5 star curtis grant has not lived up to the hype yet (he will get his chance this yr though)...after that it is true freshmen (highly ranked, but true freshmen)...

    so yes, after thinking about it, um lb's > osu lb"s
