  • roflmao I hope this loss of Townsend actually hurts OSU.

I have a feeling we're going to really like JJ McGrath by the end of his career here.

  • CMXI, now I KNOW someone of your pedigree doesn't really think having a punter stay in Florida is in any way going to kill the Bucks.

sure, we need a punter, but if we had to choose between which player to lose out on in those last few hours, I don't believe we'd trade the punter for Wilson, Bell or Clark.

Maybe we'll be like BOB at PSU, and just go for 4th down all the time...I have to believe the kicker can punt some, so since Tressel is no longer at OSU, the punter is no longer the most important player on our team.

I never said it would kill you, it just might hurt you.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this means you don't have an actual punter on the team for 2013 (unless there are walk-ons I don't know about). I don't care about who else you got on NSD, unless one of them can punt, you're still down a punter.

The difference between a bad walk-on punter and a decent scholarship punter could end up being significant at some point - games have been lost on a lot less than an errant punt.

Wow. I didn't realize they had no punters. I didn't think the loss was a big deal, but with that scenario...a bad punter could definitely cost you a game.

I suppose, theoretically, Drew Basil could handle punts and kicking duties, but that's waaaaay too much of an injury risk. You can't lose your starting kicker and punter with one hard hit.

I get ya....there are punters on the team, one walk on that was backup last year, and yes, Basil can punt but you don't want your 1st string kicker making tackles or running fake punts.

Now, one thing about walk on punters, it is not uncommon to see when on scholarship restrictions and then he can earn his schollie his soph or junior year. '14 will be our last class at 82 so will be able to give full 85 in '15.

I agree games can be decided by a bad punt as well, but if that's our weak spot for next season so be it, gotta hope it doesn't cost us a game.

Yeah, we'll see how it goes. McGrath is walking on to us under the assumption that he'll be able to earn a scholarship soon, so we'll see. I think he'll be quite good, and he'll probably take over kicking duties when Gibbons graduates (or maybe sooner, if he's as good as advertised).

Hell, the reason we have 3 scholarship K/Ps right now is that our nightmare season with Seth Broekhuizen as our starting K taught us the value of depth at each specialist spot. It's horrifying to have to hold your breath every time a K/P touches the ball.

Frankly, I don't know why Fickell didn't just run a triple-option offense, not throwing the ball at all would've been better than letting Bauserman throw.

We are actively working at flipping a decent punter.

One thing we learned tho; when things get bad, Urban always have a plan.

I just remember how down I was when we lost Thomas (replaced with Bell), Anzalone (replaced with Mike Mitchell) and Lewis Neal (replaced with Trey Johnson). Seems like Urban always upgrade after a loss.

  • After seeing Kenny Guiton this year, I can't believe Bauserman was put in ahead of him. At least he could move out of the pocket. Bauserman type will never be seen on the roster while UM is there at least. I still have no idea what JT saw in that QB. Hell, JT had Bauserman as Co starter on roster one year...WTF?? Might as well had me on there, I can throw it in the stands too..

  • drew basil averaged 40 ypp as a high school junior, 39 as a senior. frank epitropoulos was a two-time second-team Ohio Division I AP all-state pick as a punter, averaging 42 ypp as a junior and 39 as a senior.

if he can turn a tight end into an nfl-draft-worthy o-lineman and a fullback into a quarterback-eating linebacker, you can be sure urban meyer will figure it out.

and given that we only punted 3x last time ohio state and michigan played, you should concern yourselves first with your defense forcing us to punt than worrying about who will be punting for us.
