    Who wins and why?

I'd like to get a general concensus on this board about where you guys see and view each team and who will win this game.

Lemme add my Trojan 2 cents here, although I know u don't give a damn, Since u Irish don't allow foreigners to post on ur board :)

I say ND. Rees is ur best qb from what Ive seen. BK don't get enuff credit, nd is getting better and the talent is starting to gel, even if some ppl have left the program and ur secondary is shaky. That said, it all comes down to two things: Irish Not turning over the rock, and Irish limiting the yards of that bruiser back msu got.

Notre Dame wins. Sparty won't be able to run the ball and Maxwell is not good enough yet to win a big game. He will throw a couple of ints that come back to kill MSU in this game.

MSU by a couple touchdowns. Notre Dame manages next to no offense and LeVeon Bell runs for 150+.

Peterson still coaches at Boise St doesn't he? That is a very tough game to play in Week 1, even if he is replacing a bunch of guys. When Zabransky graduated people thought Boise's Cinderella run would end w/ the victory over Oklahoma, then here comes Kellen Moore. I give Peterson A LOT of credit as a coach, and beating one of his teams is a damn impressive OOC win in my book.

Meh. They lost more than just Kellen Moore. I watched that game. Boise was not impressive. It was an ugly game. Neither team looked good to me.

  • Surprisingly...I think ND wins this game easily just b/c their run defense is very solid and their pass coverage doesn't need to be that great....just good enough not to give up 300 yds and 3 tds. ND is at least a threat to throw the ball, but their unseasoned QB could spell trouble for them. I think which ever QB plays the best their team wins...but if I have to pick now I say ND

  • I think we will see what both team's are made of.

  • I'm amazed at how many people are picking ND. Both defenses are good, but I think MSU's is much stronger. I think MSU has the better run game as well, Bell is an animal. Both teams have QBs in their first year of starting - and if ND goes with Rees I will lmao.

Also, its a night game at MSU. That alone is worth at least a score in their favor. I think MSU wins by a TD, after ND scores in the final minutes to make it a closer score.

This. I think it will be 14-7 MSU. Maxwell needs a lot of work, it's obvious to anyone. He's a rookie, we get it. Our receivers need work too. But I think the D will stop them.

Although, I'd say it's a huge advantage at Spartan Stadium, but for some reason, both teams keep losing their home games against each other. shrug

  • I think MSU pulls it out..they simply are the better team right now.

  • We heard a lot of the same things going into the game last year, "Sparty's D is much better than ND". "ND can't stop "Sparty's running game". I know it's not last year, but it's just funny hearing the exact same things. It was actually just the opposite last year, we stuffed their running game, and had 2 RB's average over 5 yards a carry.

Not sure we really know what teams are made of after only 2 games. I know a lot of Irish fans are conceding the loss, because of a weak showing against Purdue, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet. "If" our OL plays like it did against Purdue, it will be a long night, if they play better,
the Irish win a close one.

  • I'm hoping all the hype is just, and they get exposed by a mediocre ND team. We need all our division rivals to lose. It's fine by me if ND runs a train on Sparty.

Me too, it makes ND having a let down game against UofM much more likely too and that works for me. Although I think Sparty wins by 14.

  • Man what kind of talent did sparty bring in that makes there defense so Good thats what I want to know ... From what I see they can't recruit for crap

Gholston, Bulough, Norman, and the Renaissance backer whose now a Dlineman. When RR was the coach, Sparty kicked UofM's butt with in-state recruiting.

  • Michigan ST. For a couple of reasons.

At Home(They have not lost a home game in 2 years I believe), Because of their defense, ND's inexperience at quarterback, and I think Maxwell and Leveon Bell will make enough plays to put ND away although it won't be easy as ND has a pretty stout front 7.

    TheDudeAbides21

  • Well being a Big Ten fan and Michigan fan I hope MSU wins by at least 2 TD's. The B1G has looked pretty bad so far this year a MSU win would help. The only bad part about that would be MSU fans talking smack and ND being laughed at for the 23rd year in a row. I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

    pappy121

  • No disrespect to ND, but this game worries me less than several of our B1G opponents. Based on what I saw last week from ND I have no doubt the Spartans take this one by 7-10. U-M played a night game last year against ND and the crowd had a lot to do with the win as will the MSU crowd this weekend. I was at the BSU game and with our new audio/video toys that was the loudest I have ever heard that place and I'm sure it will be even better with a critical rival like ND coming to town.

I think Michigan State is the tougher, more physical team top to bottom. Even if Maxwell isn't ready to play at a high level yet, I think the rest of Michigan State's team is good enough to make up for that. And that's a lot to ask for Notre Dame's young quarterback to play well in that environment on the road against that defense.

  • If Te'o is really out for the game, MSU wins easy. ND needs to stop Bell to have a chance, and Te'o was their best shot at doing that.

Good, glad to hear. I feel awful for him and all of her loved ones, but that shows some serious resolve to be able to play. I'm definitely rooting for ND now.

Good question. One starting corner was a 3 star recruit and the other a 2 star recruit...
