Who wins and why?
I'd like to get a general concensus on this board about where you guys see and view each team and who will win this game.

Notre Dame wins. Sparty won't be able to run the ball and Maxwell is not good enough yet to win a big game. He will throw a couple of ints that come back to kill MSU in this game.

MSU
It kind of works out perfect for them in this one. MSU's weakness is Maxwell, but ND's weakness is the secondary so Maxwell should have an easier time. And I think MSU's D is too good for ND's offense. Plus MSU wants to get back at ND for last year.

MSU 24 ND 17.
MSU wins if Maxwell and manage the game. If he tries to be a hero and throws a couple of picks, I could see ND winning. MSU has a pretty good run of consecutive home wins, I do not think ND is good enough to end it.

I'd give a slight advantage to MSU on paper, but it will probably be a low scoring game and that means one big play or turnover can be the difference. Sparty clearly has the better D and the game is in EL, but both teams have first year starters at QB and their offenses have been inconsistent. QB play will be critical. Not long downfield passes, but making good reads at the line and finding the right short or intermediate receiver to dump the ball off to. It probably won't happen, but if I were Brian Kelly I would start Rees. He has a cool head and shredded Sparty last year. He's also played in hostile environments. And ND doesn't need to score a ton of points. Just keep the chains moving and don't turn the ball over.

I have no idea who wins this game. If ND can somehow get the crowd out of it early with a score or a couple stops, then I give then a good shot.
I want ND to win, but I haven't seen enough out of either team to make an educated guess.
MSU isn't a very good football program.. takes year of consistent winning to get to that level. - copemoney 1/22/13

Peterson still coaches at Boise St doesn't he? That is a very tough game to play in Week 1, even if he is replacing a bunch of guys. When Zabransky graduated people thought Boise's Cinderella run would end w/ the victory over Oklahoma, then here comes Kellen Moore. I give Peterson A LOT of credit as a coach, and beating one of his teams is a damn impressive OOC win in my book.
