Norfleet to Michigan

  • MrWoodson said...

I follow recruiting ad nauseum and not just on this site. Norfleet has been discussed and debated extensively. He is not someone people wouldn't have guessed because he is so out of left field. He's a highly rated player from the State of Michigan. The reason no one thought of him is because he's not really a WR (at best, he's a slot) and he wasn't committed to an SEC school or even a school in the South. He was committed to Cincy, which last time I checked is in Ohio.

Let's just drop this, because somehow people are confusing what I'm saying as disappointment. It's not. It's confusion. And that's because the clues were very misleading. It's no big deal. I'll live. It just threw me at first.

I agree, the rumors from the analysts and others were misleading...but they seem to always play that game.

Norfleet would have been on the radar if RichRod hadn't been fired...he is a perfect ninja slot type. As it was, Hoke went another direction. I don't think he will be used as a pure RB much, but as a slot, situational guy, not to mention a kick returner, he could be an ideal fit.

He was never on our radar before now. We started recruiting him this week. I'm not sure what you're saying.

I don't know what this means. Go back 6-8 months in the Michigan thread on tBB and to other sites like MGoBlog. Norfleet has been discussed extensively.

What rumors? I never saw any Sam Webb tweet about a 4* WR from an SEC school. Tom VH floating JaQuay Williams' name out there (in what context, I don't know) and immediately deleted the post right afterward.

Pretty sure he means UM's coaches. There was never a peep of UM being in touch with Norfleet at all.

  • Norfleet is a good player but Cmon..... how does he fit this class??? its a desprate move in the final hour.

  • I was always a little confused as to why we never pursued him earlier. I remember watching film on him in the summer and thinking "wow, that kid is fast". I was expecting him to get an offer mid to late summer. I'm just glad he's with the good guys now.

There was nothing specific. The rumors were rampant, analysts were vague...I am not blaming anyone, that is the way recruiting always works. Actually, if you go back and really look at the hints...Norfleet meets their criteria.

Cincinnati took one of ours. We took one of theirs.

That is idiotic...that was never said. If that were the case, we wouldn't have tried recruiting Dunn. Now, go away.

Well, I don't spend much time in recruiting meetings with the coaching staff so I can't tell you who they discuss. But I'm pretty sure they just didn't hear of Norfleet in the past week.

Meets the criteria perfectly. (They were extremely vague so thats not hard to do)

That's the point. The coaches knew about Norfleet a long time ago, and never pursued him until now.

There's a really good chance he'll start as a freshman as our return man. And when a guy runs a 4.34 if you give him the ball in space anything can happen. With Michigan's weak receiving corp next year it will be nice to have a legitimate homerun threat other than Denard.

  • I thought um was running a pro style offense??? 5'7 slot receiver??? Start being honest with yourself. He didn't fit what um was doing in September...he doesn't fit today. Bump those recruiting rankings .

I see your point. But doesn't it resemble Vincent smith a little?? And smith doesn't return kicks.

Yeah that's why MSU recruited him for over a year, right? juggle

but he's a rb, punt return man and kick off return man....not a slot receiver (he could play that if wanted though).Think of a Darren Sproles type of guy.

Have you watched his highlight film? If you have and aren't excited then I feel bad for you and you probably shouldn't follow recruiting.

Msu bowed out after kings came to camp and norfleet worked out at the same position. You don't really believe he chose UC over MSU? The kid practically begged for a bama offer and didn't get it. He was offered by Tenn. When he snowed for camp they ignored him and pushed for Alden hill.

Size wise maybe. Smith ran a 4.62, Norfleet runs a 4.34. Norfleet returns kicks, Smith doesn't. Norfleet can be a slot receiver, Smith can't. The way I see it is Norfleet is way faster and can do more. I'll take it. And Michigan will probably end up going after Berkley Edwards next year as well as Ty Isaac. Having a scatback and then a more physical running back is fairly normal. I suspect if Norfleet were 5'10" fewer people would question Norfleet committing. I know about the other needs, but there were no good options out there.

Isn't Kings ranked lower than Norfleet?
