Non-commitable offers

  • WillyWolverine said...

lol Nope they didn't have offers once the 5 OL committed. Things change in recruiting. Michigan now has an available scholarship to offer.

I'm telling you, that's not how it works.

They don't offer kids, rescind offers, re-offer, rescind... that's not how they do it.

Don't really care what you are trying to tell me. When you fill up at a position and will no longer accept the committment of a kid then he doesn't really have an offer at that time.

Exactly. All offers are conditional. And one of the conditions that come with most offers is that the school does not fill up at the position before the offer is accepted. Occasionally you will hear a player say the coaches have promised to hold a spot open for that player, but that's not the norm. You can't give out 100+ offers and allow all of them to be accepted. Most offers also are conditioned on other things, i.e. meeting certain academic requirements, staying out of trouble, submitting acceptable SAT/ACT scores, visiting the school, etc. So whether you call it a non-commitable offer or an offer for which the conditions for acceptance have not been met is sort of semantics. Everyone knows the vast majority of offers cannot be accepted. Too many are given out.

  • There really needs to be a line drawn in this thread about spots filling up.
Those recruits could have commited earlier and been accepted.
I believe this thread is more about kids who have been extended a possible scholarship but not be accepted even if that position is not filled unless they fulfill xxxxxxx

That is not a true offer IMO.
A coach should tell them they might get an offer if they do xxxxxx not you have an offer if you do it.
