No Ty Isaac...No Problem

  • Hey guys I know most of you are taking it ok...but some of you are having a meltdown. We'll be fine without Isaac. Deveon Smith is very promising and has a potential to be better. I think we should use that RB schollie towards D Linemen. Or see if we can flip DOD lol....I liked him from the beginning. But seriously, I like our chances next year with an elite RB...maybe even better than Isaac. They'll see how many carries Fitz gets and with the OL haul we already have, we should be in on some more elite RB's. Everything is cool boys....personally I think we need Elite Defensive Linemen more than anything. That is where championships are won....on the DL. What do y'all think? Take another RB...or a different position?

  • I don't think anyone had a meltdown. Isaac would have been just a luxury for us, we didn't really need him. We need an elite WR and DL. That's it. If we can get a guy like Green or Wilkins to visit and consider us, then take another RB. If not, don't.

Totally agree with you. I would rather see us take an elite d lineman or two. We are fine as far as running backs go right now but we have a huge need for d lineman. I don't even really want us to take another rb even if its wilkins or green. I really like Deveon and Rawls is a beast not to mention that i believe Drake is going to be a solid contributor for us down the road. I get why we were after Isaac i mean elite talent like that doesnt come along all the time but we don't have a glaring need for another rb this year.

  • I wanted Ty Isaac, bad. But he simply didn't make or break this class. Getting Laquon Treadwell will make or break this class.

I won't even go that far. I loved Darboh from last year and I think York is a bit underrated. Chesson is a speed guy. Butt and Funchess should provide some really nice targets for Shane at TE as well.

I don't get too hung up on individuals. We'll get talent. No worries.

  • With this, and last years Offensive Line class I don't care who Michigan brings in at Running Back. There are going to be wide open holes for anyone to run through.

I agree all the way....they're going to make whoever is running the ball look good. And Laquon Treadwell does not make or break this class either. Not landing any elite WR's would hurt. But Laquon isn't any better than Daniels, Larue, Quick, North etc. in my opinion. Do I want him? YES Can he be replaced with an equal talent? YES It'll be hard to get elite WR's until we fully commit to the pro style offense. They're basically committing based on what coaches say is going to happen. So I can understand some kids not willing to make that jump. We'll get ours.....we're MICHIGAN for God's sake goblue

This is the right attitude. Not getting Isaac hurts...but in the scheme of things, probably is not very important, unless he turns out to be the next Adrian Peterson or something.

There are good RB, most specifically Green, who we still have a chance on. And if we don't get any of them, adding another DB or DL is perfectly fine, and may pay bigger dividends.

I'm a fan of Darboh and York also. I think they'll be damn good players .. but imo, Laquon's on another level. Have you seen his film? Big, strong, great hands and seems to be a man among boys. He's the real deal. He's pretty much whats missing from our receivers. Gamebreaking ability.

Edit: I'm in no way saying if you're not a 'gamebreaker' you're no good .. I just think we need on in our stable of receivers.

BS....we need as many elite prospects as possible. Ty is not a luxury if he was the best RB/play-maker in this recruiting class, or makes this class infinitely better for various reasons. D. Smith is awesome, but its better to have 2 awesome RB's then just 1. We need another top level RB for depth issues down the road, to provide for elite depth, and not just to have bodies. Maybe we can land another top RB this class, because if D.Smith gets injured in this class' senior year, and we don't get an elite RB(s) in 2014, it will blow up in our face for what could be a special year that was 5-6 years in the making. In hindsight, we might get an even better RB next year then Issac, but thats all speculation and hypothetical; we need to lock up recruits when we have the chance in the present, and not be dependent on future hypothetical outcomes. Getting Ty or another top RB will prevent future hypothetical's regarding a lack of elite RB depth.

I guess I should've worded that a bit better. I agree. I don't think he makes or breaks the class. There's too much talent across the board. I just meant that I think he fits a great need that we have.

goblue Well said. To the point, eloquent & truthful. I can just see the HBO replay of "The Game" were they go crazy on Timmy Biakabatuka putting all those yards on ohio. That is were the next great RB will be, on a follow up video behind the great OL haul we have coming in with this class. !

  • I don't think we should take another RB "just to take one"...if we can get an elite guy like Green or Wilkins (? I haven't watched his stuff yet) or another guy who emerges over his senior season we should obviously take them, but otherwise I'm fine with using that scholly to take an extra DL or taking two of the elite WRs on our board instead of just one.

I do think Isaac was a little more important than a mere luxury though.

Not a big fan of Wilkins, seems to run awkwardly to me. JMO though.

Isaac was definitely more than a luxury...but he wasn't a key piece either. If you don't get Shane Morris, you are in trouble. If we didn't have Dymonte in the Def. backfield, that would hurt a lot. Not having Isaac means we look for another RB. It hurts to lose him, but it is not make or break.

Shane is a smart kid. Proven leader at the HS level. This comment is 100% accurate. RBs want big holes to get big yards. Michigan has recruited the top OLine in 2012 and 2013. What more does an elite RB need?

UM and Hoke have pulled in some awesome young OL talent, but USC isn't exactly hurting up front.

The ability to outrun faster linebackers. When holes open up Isaac is outrunning weakside linebackers while Smith is getting caught.

I couldn't be a Michigan fan and say that speed is an end-all for runningbacks, but what a back does after he busts through the hole is pretty important too.
