Next year rushing attack

  • I think when it's all said and done next year fitz and green will avg abt 15 carries a game. Both of them go for over a 1000 yards or close to. Hayes gets the nod for 3rd down back and gets around 4 to 5 carries a game. This is if the oline can get its sh*t together. But I think they will and lead the ways for a deadly rushing attack

  • We don't even know if Fitz will be able to play next year. Hoke is being mum about it.

    Also, welcome!

  • I would love to agree with you, but we've seen how much Borges likes having a feature back.

I think there's a lot of guys in the mix for that spot. If Fitzgerald Toussaint is 100%, he'll have the inside track with his experience. But his terrible year really opened the door for the other guys.

Those other guys, IMO, are primarily Derrick Green and Drake Johnson. Johnson has the speed, and if he got bigger and tougher over the offseason, he'll be a great option. He also needs to improve his blocking. Green is more college ready right now that Deveon Smith and that's why I included him over Smith. He's a great blocker, gets yards up the middle, and catches the ball out of the backfield.

The next tier, in serious consideration for a lot of carries, consists of Thomas Rawls and Deveon Smith. They're both bowling balls, and I think they'd both be serviceable backs. Unfortunately, I think Rawls' fumbling problem in practice is severe. We would have seen him much more when Fitz went down if that was not the case IMO. Deveon could RS, as I don't think he'll get a lot of carries, but he is a VERY underrated back. Really brings everything to the table and is a great competitor.

I think Dennis Norfleet and Justice Hayes both fulfill the 3rd down back role that Vincent Smith has held firm for a while. Hayes has the inside track IMO.

For fullback, we have three very capable guys in Joey Kerridge, Sione Houma, and Wyatt Shallman. Kerridge seems to have the edge in blocking at the moment, but Houma could force his way onto the field sooner rather than later.

What I think we'll see: Fitz, Green, Johnson, Rawls, Smith

What I want to see: Green, Smith, Johnson, Fitz, Rawls

Would be great if he does.

Our running game is going to be great over these next few years.

I think Johnson year is next year when fitz is gone. The writing is on the wall abt Rawls when we didn't see him once in the bowl game. Never got in to the Rawls hype

  • so what do you guys think happens with Norfleet next year?

Personally I hope he gets moved back to offensive and gets used in different ways. Used in the slot, some Jet sweeps, and some screens.

    What say you?

I definitely hope so. Have to utilize his speed on offense.

I have a feeling he gets under used next year but when gallon and dileo r gone I see him getting a good look at slot

  • Well I hope all the good stuff happens with the RBs and I agree they are all talented and its nice having different styles to add wrinkles to the O..And I don't want to ruin the party because its been a GREAT day..But 1st things 1st that offensive line better work hard this off season because without them all the RBs will struggle..i expect the coaches and the men up front will get it done and the rushing attack will be strong.

I think they will get better every game and become a soild group. Getting big 77 back next year is huge

Like I said in Another post I think Johnson's time is next year after fitz leaves. With that said I'm really high on him but he just needs one more year to put every thing together

i guess i dont get the Johnson hype. i hope he will be a under the radar type too. but i guess i just dont see it. i remember thinking that he was a track guy trying to play football. hope im wrong. i think DG gets a good shot at playing and if he performs well could take over the starting job by B1G time.

i think the RB position will look like this: Fitz (if/when healthy) Hayes, Green, Rawls, Johnson, Smith RS.

    go blue.

He has all the ability and the body just needs the coaching. And he can't get much better coaching than Jackson

I remember the story of when Bo asked Tyrone Wheatley if he was gonna run like a track guy or a football player, hopefully Hoke asked Drake the same question and we get a similar response.
