Don't think it's about effort for ND. I'm not sure who is surprised by this, but I'm not.
Dual-threat QBs just don't do well against Saban defenses; remember Borges said that? E.G. for Notre Dame is young, excitable, and is not a pure pocket passer. Notre Dame damn sure can't run the ball UP the middle against Alabama; they have to attack the edges. Bama has the team speed and discipline to negate that.
My co-worker bet dinner on ND. I **told** him that Alabama was going to run the ball against the Irish, and effectively at that. On the flip side, I had my doubts that ND would be able to string long drives together against Alabama.
Alabama is just a better overall football team than ND is.

Apparently Manziel is the exception to the rule (I left out that Borges opined dual-threat QBs don't RUN well against Saban; that's what I meant to say - as opposed to not "doing well").
Newton didn't do jack squat against Alabama on the ground. Less that 1 yd per carry (22 attempts; 39 yards?).
Won't look up all of the Tebow games against Alabama, but he averaged under 4 yards per carry in December 2008.
So that above comment that "bad QBs can't have success against Bama" is incorrect as well, considering it attempted to piggyback on Cam and Tebow, both of who were absolutely stuffed on the ground.

Point is, based on Saban's general success against dual-threat QBs, I don't see Everett doing well in the 2nd half since they're taking away his ability to generate offense on the ground.
Edits to clean up typos.
