NFTC camp MVP has Michigan interest

  • 2013 WR/DB Darren Carrington has Michigan's attention.

Darren Carrington earns WR MVP at the NFTC and an SEC offer

Darren Carringtons stock is steadily climbing. After an MVP performance at the Oakland NFTC, Carrington talked favorites and on Tuesday he added his first SEC offer.

Carrington is extremely athletic with big-time playmaking abilities. He plays everywhere for his high school team so he wasn't able to really polish his skills and focus on one position, which is probably why his recruitment started off a little slow. He is definitely getting noticed now. Check out his highlights.

    Thanks Clint!

    Wow, what a beast!

Carrington is a must-get. If we want to win titles, this is the kind of playmaker that we'll need.

Clint, how is this guy not rated higher? What's the deal, is it too hard to project his position at his next level?

  • Wow, he's an impressive athlete. And a big body that we need.

It would be great if he made it out for a visit. Seems like we could easily take 4 WRs in the class if the right ones want in.

No prob. I think he is a little raw because he wasn't able to focus on one position. He can definitely still get bumped up in our future rankings too, although we really believe three-stars will be excellent players at the next level but just might need a red-shirt year.

Agree, I watched his highlights a while ago and was impressed. I have no problem taking 4 WR if we take Treadwell and one of Allen, Carrington, or Paul Harris (or the Cali guys - Larue, Stringfellow, Daniels).

According to Barton's article, he's planning on visiting (on his own dime) this summer.

Someone should alert the masses at Mgoblog about Carrington.

The coaches have visited him, he's planning on visiting on his own dime, and we're going to be his first offer from a big-time program. As of now, there's a ton of reasons to be optimistic.

Also, he's from San Diego. Obviously, the staff has a lot of in-roads there.

I'm not really sure what "must get" means to people. If we don't get, then we all jump off a cliff? We'll go back to losing seasons? The way it's used, I think it just means "really want."

He is a "must get" in the sense that he's exactly what we need to be elite year-in and year-out.

From watching his tape, I can tell that he just has an innate feel for the game. And despite his "rawness," he produces on the field.

In a sense, he is just a pure football player.

But what makes him so appealing is not what he is right now but what he will become. And I'm not talking potential 2-3 years down the road. I'm talking with just a year of college coaching (so basically a redshirt year).

Edit #1: I think Yuan has the correct connotation of "must get" in the way Exile and I used it. Sorry for the confusion MKat. Thanks for clearing that up Yuan.

Edit #2: As I watched his vid multiple times, his game reminded me of someone but I couldn't quite place it. Well it finally came to me. Carrington is basically Devin Gardner as a WR instead of a QB.

Good comparison, (discounting height) the only point I'd disagree is I think Carrington's agility> DG's agility.

I can accept that as speculation.

But I'll remind you that Gardner is an inch (or two) taller, is roughly twenty (or twenty five) pounds heavier, and has a wider build.

Gardner can change direction pretty well but he was never explosive imo.

  • He's a heck of an athlete for a kid his size, and very explosive. And as Frank said, he's just a great all-around football player. His upside could be scary once he gets some top college coaching.

  • I feel like "must get" is being thrown around pretty loosely ITT. The way it's being used here there are probably a 100 must get guys in the country. A must get guy is a top talent that is local or has ties to the program or grew up dreaming of that UM offer. A guy who is going to be a real difference maker and if we somehow don't get him somebody screwed up. Not a WR, no matter how talented he is, from the west coast who only mentions UM in passing. A "must get" in this class that comes to mind is Shane Morris.

The ultimate goal is national titles, not B1G titles, and not rebuilding, so a top-flight play-maker is a "must-get" in this class.

I think it's a matter of semantics. While an elite playmaker may be a must-get in this class, and a lot of people would agree with that, that doesn't necessarily mean that Carrington himself is a must-get, as there are other players like that out there in the event that he doesn't end up at Michigan.

So Sua Cravens is a must get? Reuben Foster? Ndechimike however you spell his name? Sure I would like all those guys but calling them must get just because they are awesome is a stretch. A big time WR might be a must get but at this point the closest to a must get at WR is Treadwell because we actually have a realistic chance at landing him.
