NFL Mock Draft

  • This one has Milliner being taken ahead of Ansah as a strict indicator of the "best player available" philosophy the Lions have instituted for too long. Agree?

Idk, right now Its hars for me. I wouldnt want to have to make the decision bevause we have needed secondary for soooo long. It seems as if its always our achiles heel.
Defensive ends can really produce though.

  • The three spartans leave early and they are projected 4th round, they probably should of stayed in school. Also no Denard in the first 5 rounds?

I like Ansah, but I would have him rated as the 3rd OLB/DE behind Jordan and Mingo. Also I hope Mingo can fall to the Steelers at 17.

  • I'll be bummed if the Lions pass on Milliner if he's available given our need in the secondary. He's fast and is a good cover guy.

  • I'm a Bills fan, and I might cry if we take Geno Smith in the first. The team's about to let one of our best OLs walk, and as much as we need a QB, we only have one reliable WR on the team. Smith is not good enough to justify the 8th overall pick in a bad QB draft.

  • For a laugh, scroll down and go to the 2014 Mock draft. If Terry Bridgewater and Johnny Manziel get drafted before Jadeveon Clowney I will eat my shoe. Also, if my Browns take Johnny Football I will eat my other shoe.

    Bills should take Patterson IMO.

  • I will be pissed if the Lions take Ansah at 5 overall. You don't take a player that is boom or bust at 5 overall, because that is what he is.

I didn't laugh at that scenario at all. Bridgewater is already going to legitimately be in the conversation for the top pick next year. If Johnny Football shows the same accuracy again this year and doesn't perform below expectations a team will be very interested in him, especially with the zone read having some success as of late in the league. Right now the odds are in Clowney's corner for him to go number one overall, but QB is held is such high regard that this scenario isn't laughable one bit.

Completely agree. I want Patterson in the first, either an OL/LB in the second (best available) and a QB/OL/LB in the 3rd.

This draft has plenty of quality OL. You could get a really good one in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Patterson has shit hands, and that is an honest concern that people are not talking about. I can't think of one WR in the league that had made it that is a body catcher.

I dont know he looked pretty good to me. Id say the biggest knock on him right now is his route running ability.

Yeah, athletically he is special. Can't teach his stop and start ability. His hands are a bigger knock then his route running, he doesn't have natural hands and catches with his body. As for his route running he does run some lazy routes at times. Which is weird, because often times he is a willing run blocker. Usually guys who are willing run blockers aren't lazy route runners, but he is. If you take him, you aren't taking him for his hands, you are taking him for his special ability in the open field.

You can teach catching with your hands and route running. You cant teach athletic ability or physical attributes. You have to understand that last season was his first season with an actual WR coach(the year before that he was juco) As for his routes I dont know if I woud call it lazy more like sloppy.

You can technically argue that you can teach hands. But I can't think of one body catcher coming out of college who has turned into a natural hands catcher. I just can't think of some one who had been able to do it. When you have been body catching for most of your football career up to this point, it is only natural for it to come back to you in real live game speed.

Btw no argument from me on teaching route running, that definitely is much easier to correct. I'm not saying he will/won't correct it, but definitely teachable.

Like I said I think he will be fine. IMO he is the top WR in the draft(which honestly isnt saying much). If my team had a top 10 pick then I would pick 3-4 positions and take the best available player. If a team is drafting that high then there is a reason and one player will not make that big of a difference.

Yeah, my favorite WR in the draft is Keenan Allen. Then Tavon Austin. These guys aren't free of valid question marks either though. Allen has great body control and hands, but lacks vertical speed. Austin has good hands, separates well, runs very crafty routes and is obviously athletically gifted, but he is tiny. This is one of the weaker top 10's i can ever remember as far as blue chippers go, but yet on the other hand it is one of the deepest 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds I can ever remember as well.

  • I'm not as high on Milliner as others are. I saw him get picked on in the A&M game and Bama corners tend to struggle in the NFL. I'd much rather like to see the Lions draft Fisher and then move up into the late 1st round to draft the CB from Washington.

I think that Allen will be around in the early 2nd round. So if someone had a top 10 pick they could get best available and Allen, Wheaton, The General, or Bailey. It really depends on what type of WR a team is looking for. I agree the top end isnt there, but it is very deep. It would be a good draft to trade back and get more picks. (also very deep in OL and DL)

Thing about Milliner is this. He doesn't seem to have a very high ceiling, but... he does have a high floor. Most years he wouldn't be top 10 worthy, but I think by default he is this year. I'm not very high on Milliner either though. I'm a fan of Fisher, and think he is better then Joeckel.

Not really a fan of drafting Trufant in the 1st or 2nd round. In the regular season he played like a 3rd rounder. In the senior bowl he played like a sure fire 1st rounder... So what is he? You know what I mean. I think he is a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

Quinton Patton is going to be awesome value for some team at the top of the 2nd round. Reminds me a little bit of Greg Jennings. I'm also a fan of Wheaton. Not a really big Bailey fan. It will be interesting to see how some teams value Justin Hunter. Is he a 1st rounder(I don't think so) or is he a 3rd rounder, I think closer to a 3rd rounder then a 1st rounder, but teams are going to be intrigued by his height, weight, athletic ability combo.

Ok we will agree to disagree. Also I dont really believe he has that big of a problem with it. He is just really raw and it shows in his route running. Do I think that he will have hands like Fitzgerald? No, but with his athletic ability he just may be able to do some special things shrug.
