NCAA approves ejection for targeting

  • defenseless players above the shoulders.

Here is a snippet from the link provided:

The Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a new football rule that requires players who target and contact defenseless players above the shoulders to be ejected, effective for the 2013 season. The change increases the on-field penalty for targeting by adding the automatic ejection to the existing 15-yard penalty.

    My thoughts exactly!

Just another way to potentially put the outcome of a game into a single zebras hands.

Absolutely. So many calls get made that they consider targeting that in no way was the defensive player trying to make contact above the shoulders. Now it would be an automatic ejection.

  • In many ways I like it because in games I have seen players targeted. Colt McCoy comes to mind.
I agree with the others though that it is stupid. To many times a defender will commit to tackling just to have the ball carrier lower his shoulders making it an illegal hit.
Unless the hit is absolutely flaggerant I don't agree with ejection. It will really put game in the opinion of a ref when any high hits happen.
