"Borges needs to unleash Denard more and earlier. And don't treat him as a pure pocket passer, fergodsakes."

I was asked by a friend last night an interesting question. Is Michigan focusing on winning the B10 as the next stepping stone, and not worrying about 'all the marbles' - so to speak? He asked this question, as it was clear Borges was holding DR back.

Yes, I think Michigan is focused on winning the B10. If the Alabama game had been closer, I think we see Borges unleash Denard. But what's the point of exposing your starting QB to significant injury risk in a game that's already out of reach? I guarantee part of Borges' thinking after we were down 21-0 was how to keep Denard healthy for the entire regular season.

    Two points ...

    1. We had no chance unless we unleashed DR. Thus, it would never have "been closer" unless DR was allowed to run.

    2. DB should not have scheduled an AL game if you were going to limit your ONLY option to win.

Its amazing how everyone is bashing Borges for not running Denard more REALLY? Did You guys NOT see how Big Bama was on D and how hard they were hitting?? Did you wan't Borges to really kill his only QB he has on the team? The poor kid was already hurt. I think what Borges did was smart thank god he didn't run Denard more he would have hurt him and killed our season.

Yeah the more I read posts from MSU, Bama and OSU, I really don't think they have the ability to understand.. anything. They bash Hoke as a coach because he has Denard passing in a pro-style attack. Then they bash Denard for being the worst passer in NCAA history. Then they talk about how we had no chance moving the ball on the ground because we got dominated in the trenches.

Is it not obvious that we had less talent at literally every matchup last night and nothing we could have done would've won the game? You can't blame the current players or coaches for what happened. You can't even blame Dave Brandon or RR really, because that would be ignorant. It just wasn't good timing for us to play Bama.

We'll just have to deal with the clusterfuck of retards on 247 from other fanbases until we go out these next few weeks and start spanking teams around. Everyone thinks we'll lose 4-5 games now and won't even compete for the B1G title, I feel very comfortable with where we're at and will be very surprised if we lose more than 3 games this season.

Then Michigan should not have scheduled AL. If the coaches thought they could have won with DR's passing, then I am very concerned for this upcoming season. Play to your strength, which is NOT DR throwing the ball. It is DR running the ball. I think the coaches want to win the B10, and call it good this year. You do not have the 'horses' to run the race, so play to what is possible.

All depends on how they respond the next few weeks.

  • I finally had a chance to watch the game this morning after a hellish 12 hour night shift and hardly any sleep the day before.

    - I was impressed with Norfleet. He showed some shiftiness and feel like he's going to break a few this season.

    - Can see DG being a good receiver for us especially with a few more games under his belt.

    - Gallon also looked solid and poised to have a good year.

  • I hear a lot about Norfleet doing only kick returns, but I could see the coaches getting him in the offense in other ways. Maybe running a reverse? Or running a screen?

I think he probably needs to put on some muscle for his own protection, but I definitely see him working his way into the offense.

Norfleet was an outtanding pickup. Kudos to the coaches on their analysis with him.

  • I don't really see a silver lining here. Not everyone on Michigan was awful but then it's pretty rare for that to be the case in any game of football. The reality of the situation is that we got beat bad and you can't get that genie back in the bottle.

Honestly, everyone always clamoring for big non-conference opponents needs to be aware of this reality, being in this game is good PR but losing this game massively is worse PR than beating South Missouri State College by six TDs.

    1. Denard got two carries in the first half. That's an absurdly low total for the only player that matches up favorably with Alabama on the roster.

    2. I refuse to believe that Brady Hoke and Al Borges decided to concede the offense because Alabama hit too hard.

How in the world would you know? The game was out of hand by the time Michigan did anything other than a slow developing sweeps or a quick slants into bad match ups.

I am not going to bash Borges for the limited carries regarding Denard, but what I am purplexed about is where were the short to intermediate passing routes?
It seemed like chuck the ball up the entire first half which is not playing into Denard's strength either.....

This. Norfleet needs more touches. Try him in the backfield a little.
