Morris out for rest of season?

  • Very unfortunate if true.

Michigan QB recruit Shane Morris could be out for season with mono | Farmington Sports | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

The mononucleosis helps explain some lackluster performances that saw Morris complete only 40 of 83 passes for 456 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions in De La Salles four games.

  • Ehh, his OL is so bad that it's probably better he doesn't risk serious injury playing behind them. I'm sure he's devastated though, he was looking forward to this year.

I just hope they don't try to rush him back from mono - he should take the full time off to make sure he's good for UM

  • he should start studying the Michigan playbook and Big 10 defenses religiously then...

Not a bad idea if he is going to be out the rest of the year.

I know mono can keep you out for quite some time, but he should be good by then. I'm really interested to see Morris against that type of competition.

  • I feel for him not being able to complete his senior year. But at this point he needs to rest and kick the mono. On the bright side, another two months of running for his life probably won't hurt his development too much. And as stated before, at least he won't have to worry about some devistating injury.

  • Damn. Too bad he couldn't play his Senior season.

  • I see this making him even hungrier and more driven than before... as if that was possible.

  • I posted a comment couple days ago saying morris should retire high school football and get ready for college, because hes running for his life every snap. maybe the DLS coach likes 247sports and read my comment shrug

  • Sucks for him, being his senior year and all... Will probably kill his ranking but in the mythical world of recruiting rankings it means nothing... Love how he approaches the game and like 97% of HS QNs he has a long ways to go to being a starter at a BCS school.... Hope he recovers and is in good health from here on out... Cant wait to see him put on the winged helmet

  • Mono can be bad enough but for an athlete that expends the kind of energy that you do in football......

    Eg.

    1) Jeremy Maclin - Philadelphia Eagles got mono about 8 months ago and only came back last week
    2) Some kid named Junior Hemingway was a sophomore who missed the last 8 games of the 2008 season and came back the next year. If I'm not mistaken he ended up doing pretty well at Michigan

Wishing Shane a speedy and full recovery.

PS I thought that I'd read somewhere that Shane wanted to enroll early and De LaSalle wouldn't let him........does this change things??

    Thanks
Not an Eagle's fan. I had just been reading about Mono and it's effect on athletes. My Daughter had it last year in her first year of college and she was wiped out for a month. Should have read more carefully.confused

  • It sucks, but with the enlarged spleen that occurs with Mono, you risk bleeding to death by playing football. Sucks for him, but hope he gets ready for next year.

    DLS doesn't allow early graduation.

  • I'm actually happy he's done at the high school level. The guy was running for his life every play. his team was gonna get him killed especially with every defensive player in the state knows who he is. people are gunning for him wishing to get a big hit on a 5 star. time for him to get some rest from football and get ready for the wolverines.

Morris would not have progressed much more this season. While PT is always advantageous, he can focus on next fall and prepare with the playbook.

This is exactly how I feel. I want Shane to rest and not risk serious injury by continuing to play behind that swiss cheese O-Line. He'll rest up, rehab, start working out again and just start studying Michigan's playbook early.
